[/QUOTE] De nada, I’m glad it was a joke. I see it in similar light, now. Inveterate punsters consider threats of violence or joking violence (pillow thrown, etc.) as applause. I was once ordered to be bitten by a small child, for mentioning my plan to bake poison into an egg pie, and give people the ‘Quiche of Death’. Ginger could give me a playful sock on the arm for that, and I’d deserve (and appreciate) that. ---

Also, I doubt if a person with a serious complaint would capitalize for effect and spread the drama across sentence fragments. I giggled. ---

I prefer my [mock threads](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=431839) to be very over-the-top to ensure that there is little confusion. (It’s one of my favorites) ---

Speaking as an inveterate smartass who has gotten thumped on the arm innumerable times by a (female) friend, I understood what was going on in the OP immediately. In fact, last night I got thumped by proxy. Last night my friend was over at my place and her adult daughter dropped in for a while. Since I don’t get a lot of company, seating in my living room consists of a double recliner, which is perfectly adequate for most cases. One of my dining room chairs was dragged into the living room, and somehow in the ensuing case of musical chairs my friend’s daughter ended up sitting next to me. I made a bad joke (which escapes me at the moment) and my friend told her daughter to hit me. And she did… I suppose I was lucky; all she did was snap my upper arm with a finger, instead of giving me the full-fist thump I would have gotten from her mother. ---

Oh Og, that cracked me up from the moment I started reading, which quickly devolved into sharing it with the Other Half (who, I might add, I could see doing the exact same thing – which he just now turned around and said I would too, so I suppose that makes us even) and us comparing notes on ways to make it our own. Like saying that no one in the Bible Belt actually has to _scavenger_ for churches unless it’s inside their own homes and, if we had helped them win, would we get in on a piece of the winning action. I adored it. Good job guys. ---
