First you guys get tax breaks for your mortgages, now you’re getting a $15,000 tax credit from the government to buy a house? All we get from our government is responsible overseeing of mortgage and lending laws.

I agree – my wife and I have always lived in less house (like half as much) then the banks say we could afford, and have never regretted it.

Looks like that $15,000 tax credit just got wiped out in the interest of compromising the Senate and House versions of the stimulus according to this article. That’s certainly not going to keep us from buying a house since we weren’t counting on it when the idea first came up, but it’s sad nonetheless.
I also think it’s a shame in the sense that I could see that bonus money having had a pretty direct impact on the recovery of the housing market. I’m certainly no economic expert, but free money tends to get the attention of a lot of people.
