I had some Mitsubishi stereo equipment years and years before they started making cars.
I had two rounds of knee surgery in the Samsung hospital in Seoul, Korea. It is arguably the best hospital in Korea, and one of the best in Asia. The Chaebols, as the Korean conglomerates are known, make or do pretty much everything – ships, electronics, cars, insuarance, financial, food. Samsung, Hyundai, LG (which used to be Lucky Gold Star), whatever is left of Daewoo, and a few others pretty much are Korea.
I think GE may have conducted a cradle to grave life cycle assement on humans, and decided to be an integral part of each stage. I am not so sure I welcome our new domestic appliance overlords.
…
1.) A Toaster shall not harm a human being, or, through inaction allow a human being to come to harm.
2.) A toaster will obey all commands given it by a human being, except where that interferes with the first law
3.) A toaster shall preserve its own existence, except where this interferes with the first two laws
Unfortunately, I think our toaster is one of those new Cyberdyne system 5s from SkyNet…
Sunspace, I agree that huge conglomerates with a single brand identity are less common in the US than in the far east, I was just being nitpicky. Why this is I am not sure. I would take a geuss it has somethimng to do with a greater influence of shareholders on corporate direction in the US, and access to capital.
Pretty sure most GE items are sold under the GE brand. One of the exceptions being NBC universal. GE are pretty keen on letting you know it is a GE product, an example is recently GE bought Vetco Gray, a company with a good reputation and good brand recognition (if well heads happen to be your thing). Since the purchase most of the advertisments have always had the tagline Á GE Company´prominatly displayed, and a lot of their sales engineers now have that on their business cards.
I would say GE is rare in being a US corporation that brands all its lines, but it is also pretty vigorus at offloading divions that are not in the top 2 or 3 of their sector, thus keep the shareholders happy so are allowed to continue the big conglomerate model.
Careful. You don’t want to be recalled and factory-refitted / replaced.
I’ve always been impressed by the F-16 fighter-bomber component of their product range. It’s nice to know that if I need to accessorise my Samsung hard drive, the sky isn’t the limit.
