Given [this initial](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=241503) thread, and a few others that have been closed, and given [this other thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=241651), I have a question. Would you guys mind changing the “for the Straight Dope” to something else? When I see that, I read, “for ‘Cecil Adams’ and the Chicago Reader”. I mean, I understand why you close threads for various reasons. I understand you deal with and nail trolls. I understand that you’ve got a volunteer job. But it kind of seems weird that you might indirectly, corporately associate yourselves with Cecil’s [sub]whomever he may be[/sub] and the Chicago Reader’s works. Can you change it to maybe, “for the Straight Dope Message Board” or something? Tripler I admit you have a thankless job and I have respect, but not when it seems kind of pungent in some cases. ---

**Smeghead** , you’re right. In [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=4573254#post4573254) **Cajun Man** says “for the SDMB”. I don’t have a problem with it. He’s answering on behalf of the moderators and on behalf of the Straight Dope Message Board. It irks me. I personally can’t answer on behalf of the government, nor any specific company I work for. But, I can answer for my shop. It’s a statement that lends me to believe she’s answering on behalf _of the Straight Dope_ in its _entirety_ versus just the _Straight Dope Message Board_. If I were a newer poster, I might even be scared off. . . I dunno, it just seems like it’s a line that’s a little too big for it’s britches. Tripler Tell me if I’m barking up a tree here. ---

I have received word from Cecil Himself that I am his very own Angel of Death. I AM acting on behalf of the Straight Dope. In addition to my mod/admin duties, I also write the (very occasional) Staff Report, and I promote the Straight Dope, and if I see it mentioned in another area (like one of my local newspapers, cited as a source), I bring it to the attention of the Chicago Reader. When I see one of Cecil’s columns or a Staff Report or even a message board post on some other site, I check to see if they’ve received permission to reprint it. Usually they haven’t. And in that case, I hound the site to get them to remove the article or post. I work for the Straight Dope, not just for the Straight Dope Message Board, although the board does take up most of my time. When I sign a post “Lynn, For the Straight Dope” it means that it’s official, and that I’m acting for the Straight Dope, not just the message board. ---

Can we turn this into a “fawn all over Lynn” thread now? Because Lynn, you are _so_ kick ass. All the mods and admins here are fab, and do a great job, but they just don’t do it with quite the same flair you do. Ok, I’ll stop, I’m embarassing myself. ---

I recall seeing a poster by the name of [Limbo Donni](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php) a little while back. He’s still a member, so he’s not an obvious parody or vengeful troll. As far as I know, the only relation that has bothered to register and post here is my brother John, and HIS last visit was nearly four years ago. He only posted three times. I have warned my parents that this site includes some pretty gross stuff, and they have declined to visit it. Same deal with my sister. My husband and daughter are similarly uninterested, though I do sometimes make them read a particularly funny thread or post. Everybody has different tastes. ---
