And I passed! Two separate written psychological mumbo-jumbo tests asking questions like “which of the following would upset you the most in a work situation” and “how lucky would you consider your life to be up to this point?”, a physical exam involving exercises I haven’t even HEARD of before, and a mile run, which I haven’t ever successfully completed outside of a treadmill. Did I mention I have a cold? I can barely speak. I’m sure I annoyed the hell out of the rest of the candidates with all the coughing and wheezing and sneezing I did while they were trying to remember whether the picture they just looked at showed a woman with striped pants and a sweatshirt or a striped shirt and sweatpants. Anyway, I’m proud of myself right now. I don’t even know if I want to be a cop, but it felt nice to know that I COULD if I wanted to. ---

Yesterday I felt awful, awful, awful, and I was convinced I wouldn’t feel well enough to go through with it, but today I felt a bit better so I decided to give it a whirl. ---

Congrats on your passing the test! But I hope you can find other employment. I’m not all that fond of either Metro or my own Henderson police forces. If you do join, I hope you are able to be a “serve & protect” cop instead of a “shoot first and cover it up” cop. Either way, be proud of your current accomplishment! ---

I’m a middle-aged guy stuck in a high-tech manufacturing environment. It sucks to be in this position right now and looking back I should have chosen a career that provided a more altruistic environment. Good for you. Go forth and help others. It really beats being in a cubicle farm for life. I think I might start my own thread regarding this… ---

Well it’s not exactly like being a cop is the dream job I’ve been waiting for my whole life. I’m not really into awesome displays of force and power and authority, so I’m not sure they’re going to take me seriously at the oral board interview anyway. If I do make it, there’s a good chance I won’t accept the offer, but if I do, I think you can count on me being neither the “protect and serve” knight in shining armor OR the shoot-first-and-cover-it-up-later guy. I’m just looking for a job where I can be proud of what I’m doing, and make enough money to support my family. ---

Good Job! If what I am led to believe is true, working in Las Vegas law enforcement is a rollickingly good time, week to week, full of excitement and puns, although there is the distinct danger that, about once per season, you or one of your various attractive coworkers will be kidnapped or otherwise endangered by a killer whose devilishly clever clues are quickly unraveled by the remainder of the team, which will save you, he, or she right in the nick of time (usually). ---
