My daughter gave me DVDs of _PeeWee’s Playhouse_ and _Miami Vice_. _PeeWee_ holds up – _Miami Vice_ doesn’t. It still **looks** good, but Don Johnson’s acting was just awful – way too loud, for one thing. He makes that CSI guy look good in comparison.

Johnson is fine in other things I’ve seen him in, but not _Vice_.

I think we all get a pass on stuff that we liked before we hit puberty. For me, the thing that I can’t figure out is what I ever saw in all those horrible cheesy 80’s hair bands.

God, this is almost embarrassing to admit, but I used to really, really love Piers Anthony. I read all of the Incarnations of Immortality series and most of Xanth. I remember genuinely enjoying these books. I look back now and think, seriously, WTF? He is one of the worst fantasy authors to ever get published. It’s just dreck! What the hell was I thinking?

I’ve also moved on past some of the Robert Heinlein stuff I used to really love, but I don’t have the same “WTF?” feelings about it. I just don’t care for it as much anymore.

Led Zeppelin, for the most part, though there are still a small handful of their songs that still resonate with me. (I only hear those songs once in a while when listening to the radio; I havent played any Zeppelin on my own for decades)

**The X-Files**. Okay, I guess I do still appreciate it, but I can’t watch it anymore without seeing something scientifically inaccurate.
**Hanson**. Christ, that was embarrassing to admit. In my defense, I was in fifth grade.
**Full House**. Did I really think that shit was funny?

:dubious:

You didn’t see anything scientifically inaccurate during the original run? What finally clued you in? 😉

_The Dukes Of Hazzard_. I barely remember the later seasons of the original run, and used to love watching the reruns in the late 1990s on TNN. When CMT started showing reruns a few years ago, I thought, “Oh boy! This will be fun! I used to love this show!”. Then I started watching, and after about 20 minutes, I realized it wasn’t as great as I remembered. Ten minutes into the second episode, I realized that The Dukes of Hazzard is really, really, really stupid.

I’d be rockin’ out to Led Zeppelin in the car today , but some THIEF took my CD. And they took my Duran Duran, too! Sorry, they’ll never get old for me!

Looking at the few copies of old Marvel comic books - The Fantastic Four, The X-Men - I’d saved from childhood - Gads, the artwork is nice, but the storylines! The dialogue! How stupid! How dated!

Feel the same way about every old TV show from way back when (and frankly, I didn’t really like many of them way back when, either). I really have no desire to walk down memory lane with I Love Lucy, or even All In The Family or Mary Tyler Moore. Those ships have sailed.

Most of the stuff I liked has stayed just as good (like the Mysterious Cities of Gold and Mary Poppins) or I always knew it was trash but enjoyed it anyway (like He-Man). But there are a couple of exceptions:

Dempsey and Makepeace. I mean, I liked it partly for the will-they-won’t-they between the leads, and they do still have great chemistry (they’ve been married in real for about 25 years now), but the show is otherwise terribly bad.

Adventures in Babysitting. I watched it rcently wth my daughter and her friend and, while it had its moments, it was ‘the funniest film the world ever!’ that I rewatched a lot as an early teen.

Ha ha, this is almost exactly what I was going to post. I think that a large percentage of young fantasy readers go through a Piers Anthony phase somewhere around ages 12-15, then realizes he’s a terrible writer and feels embarrassed about the whole thing.

The fact that I wasn’t ten years old, and thus knew a lot more science. 😛

Actually, by “scientifically accurate” I meant more…I dunno, forensically accurate, for lack of a better term. I saw an episode where a guy was trying to wrench something from the hands of an unforgiving, stiff body…that had clearly been dead for weeks. I watched that recently and thought “rigor mortis doesn’t last that long, show!”
