I’d say so–if they’re actually getting to all the piddly crap they need to pass you up the chain, they’re probably serious about you as a candidate. ---

Wow- you guys are so supportive, it’s so awesome! So today I had to work there all day, as a “working interview”. That’s a new one on me, but I did it, and will get paid decently for it. I think it went okay- they told me they still had a couple people to see but that I was a top candidate. I told them that I was still interviewing with a couple other places, but that they were at the top of my list, too. So hopefully, that call will come soon. One good thing is they pay 100% of your medical insurance, so between that and a small pay bump, I’ll be about $200 a month richer than I was at my old job. I will update. ---

Wow, I’ve never heard of such a thing as a “working interview”. No pressure there. I do see the beauty of it though and wonder why it hadn’t been thought of before. ---

Update: Well, I didn’t get the job. Darnit. But actually, I learned during my day there that my would-be direct supervisor has “mood problems” and I just got away from one with that kind of problem, so actually I dodged a bullet. I’m too sensitive to be around people with mood disorders and I end up taking on their moods as well. Yesterday I interviewed at a skanky little place that does drug testing. The office was gross and even the employees looked like the dregs of society. I was offered that job but declined. Besides being gross, they wanted me to work until 6:30 pm, and as a single mother with dinner and homework and such to worry about, that’s just not feasible. Monday I’m going to start at my own doctor’s office as a temp until they can get an RN for that position. It was found by my agency, and I don’t even think they know it’s me because the resume goes out blind. My doctor is wonderful and I love him- his wife is rumored to be not-so-nice but I’m also a patient of hers (same practice, different specialty- gyn) so I think she’ll be nice to me. It’s not my ideal job, but it’ll pay my bills and hold me over for a bit while I continue to look for my ideal job, because I’m not going to settle for less. ---

Good luck with the temporary position and finding something longer-term–you defintely don’t want to get stuck with a new-boss-same-as-the-old-boss if you can possibly avoid it. ---

**Update!!** So, I have been temping at my own PCP and Gyno’s office- they are husband and wife, working in the same office, for two weeks. I was sent there by a temp agency but have been a patient there for years. I love love love my PCP- he is so amazingly nice. Her, she has a notorious reputation in town for being difficult to work for. The name Cruella gets tossed around. I get along great with her, though- I’m used to working with perfectionist, cranky doctors and I don’t take it personally. Plus, I’m good, so that gives them a lot less to be cranky about. Her current assistant is a young little thing just out of school and is not happy with the job and doesn’t get along with the doctor. She’s been waiting for a transfer but it hasn’t happened yet. Today after the assistant left, the doctor sat me down and told me that she loved working with me and that she thinks _I_ should have the job as her main MA. I accepted it, and I’m going to start at $2.50 an hour MORE than I was making at the job I walked out on. That’s $100 a week more, plus tons of overtime. I’m wary of it, because 1)she does have a reputation as a bitch (but maybe she’s just not had the right assistant) and B)I don’t know about working with vaginas that much. I feel about vaginas the same way I feel about kids- my \*own \* is okay, but I don’t really want anything to do with anyone else’s. I would make a very bad lesbian, all “You can do _me_ all you want, but I’m not doing you”, etc. But I do have to say that after working with them for 2 weeks all day every day, it’s not that bad. It’s not like they’re hairy monsters that will suck you in, slam shut, and eat you if you get too close, or anything. So, there’s my udate. More money, smaller office=less people to get annoyed with, more respect, more happiness. There are very few people working there, which means that in no time, it will be _my_ office and you know I love to be the boss. It will be sad if the current MA gets fired, but it’s within a huge organization, so it’s quite possible she’ll get transferred. So, all in all, yay! ---

Thanks! The reality of the money situation is hitting me right now. At my old job, we could NEVER get overtime. In five years, I got 15 minutes once. At this job,\* tons\* of overtime if you want it. With the pay raise, I will easily be making at least $500 a month more. Woo hoo! It would have taken me 3-5 years to make this salary at my old job, and they aren’t even giving the usual raises this year. Old Office, if you’re reading this: Suck it, bitches! 😃 ---
