I got six of them out of an automated parking lot attendant this past weekend, I tossed them into my change bucket when I got home. When I read this story, I made a beeline to the bucket to check them out. Alas… ---

I’ll see if I can dig some out of our banks here and send you a couple if they have them. Also - they [do say “In God We Trust”](http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=Washington) - except it’s on the _edge_ of the coin. ---

For a country that supposedly keeps church and state separate, the USA sure is keen to plaster God all over the place. (Except when they screw up at the Mint, of course). Here in the UK, of course, we prefer more cryptic edge inscriptions. **PLEIDIOL WYF I’M GWLAD** , anyone? 🙂 ---

Generally, the Post Office’s stamp vending machines are the only reliable source for dollar coins. They don’t circulate much at all. Your best bet would be a coin shop. I’ve bought one or two state quarters at coin shops. ---

I believe that even with the paper dollar still being issued, the coins could achieve day-to-day circulating status if only everyone who liked them could actually _ **get** _ them. ---

[/QUOTE] I remember with the Sackies it varied. I was able to get them at my bank early on, but then they never seemed to have them. They were the first year-2000 coins I saw. ---

TikkiDad bought a roll of them from a bank. I had one and casually checked it the other day because I remembered hearing something about the In God We Trust bit being larger than normal. Didn’t see it on there at all. But now I can’t find it to make sure. Thought I’d tossed it in my change can. There’s still most of the roll it came from sitting on TikkiDad’s table. He’s at work right now and I’m just itching to take my spare key and go over there to check those out. He wouldn’t mind but I think I should wait. ---

They had a news story on them last night. There’s about 40,000 of the “godless dollars” in circulation and they are mostly in Florida. People want them as collectors items but they really aren’t that rare since there are 40,000 of them. They showed asking prices of over $1000 for them on e-bay but said if you really, really want one you’d be a fool to pay more than $100. ---

Walk around with a limp all evening. ---

Go to youtube and search for “Red Dwarf” and then select the pilot episode for the British series. It’s just a few minutes into it. Feed a $5 bill into one and it will dispense your change in dollar coins and quarters. I can’t guarantee what kind of dollar coins it will spit back, but they’re ubiquitous on our campus and I, who had never seen more than one or two dollar coins in my entire life previous to this, was suddenly awash in Saccies the semester they all appeared. ---
