I want to build Titanic II !

I live in Silicon Valley, but this Silicone Valley place sounds a lot more interesting to me. How do I get there?

Nonsense. Brittle rivers are easily come by in these parts, providing you want them in January or February.

It’s the transport and preservation issue that pushes up the cost.

And don’t forget, Titanic II will need a band, too. What’s the 2017 song equivalent of Nearer, My God, To Thee?

May I suggest “Also Unsinkable!” as an advertising slogan?

I wonder if I could negotiate a better deal if I let them know that the ship is going to sink?

Tell then you can get them a really good deal on a used iceberg.

“Jesus, Take The Wheel?”

How about “Drop Kick Me, Jesus (Through the Goal Posts of Life)” by Bobby Bare?

Just drive 'til you get to the mountains.

Actually, the Chinese have beat everyone to it at an estimated cost of $161 million.

…and construction is already well underway x.com

Unfortunately, it will permanently docked so that is a significant cost savings.

If you really want to recreate the Titanic experience, you should be planning to sail from Southampton to 41°43′55″N 49°56′45″W…

I’m planning to build a replica of this ship

I will name it Titan Urectum

They should install it on a rail system to make sure it sinks on every cruise. Make it un-un-sinkable.

Unfortunately work on this has stopped.

Another report described the ship as only about 25% complete.[16] As of late 2022 the project’s official website was offline. A web archive image captured in October 2021 shows that no updates had been made since July of that year.[34] In September 2022 a London-based financial site attempted to contact Romandisea but received no response.[35] As of 2022, the official Romandisea Titanic Twitter page @RomandiseaT2, which occasionally posted updates and progress on the replica’s construction has been suspended.[36]

But I wanted to update this thread as:

Now those remains are, in a way, resurfacing, thanks to the release of more than 80 minutes of uncut footage from the first filmed voyage to the wreck. The research team behind the Titanic’s discovery, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, released the video on Wednesday.

Video is at:

for completeness - Update: Palmer's Titanic II & China's Romandisea Cancelled?.

Sadly, there is no prospect of a maiden voyage which could have Clive Palmer recreating a collision with an iceberg.

A ship whose volume is less than its displacement can’t float.

But to put this into perspective, you were not only paying for the voyage itself; you were also paying for accommodation during a trip that was scheduled to take seven days. Renting a luxury suite of that size in an exclusive hotel for a week will set you back a similar amount today.

The Titanic’s gross tonnage was 46329. Its displacement was 52310 tons. As I explained in that post back in 2017, “tons” in the context of the volume of the ship measure a completely different thing from “tons” or “tonnes” in the context of its displacement. It’s just coincidence that the same word is used in both contexts. It might have been better if the first one was spelt “tunnage”.

Good news, if you have something like 8M$, you can now cruise for life, living on the ship. :scream: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
