I want to have a steampunk lamp. But what is steampunk anyway?

Nice! I get the glow globe part and the black stem holding the lamp, but what is that white conical glow underneath? It’s annoying me that I can’t figure it out!

You are looking in the wrong place. I am not the man on the television, the lamp in question is to the right.

This was what I was thinking reading this thread. Taking something and gluing a bunch of random gears to it is still steampunk, it’s just bad steampunk. Like, if you were instead going for a Flash Gordon “rocket ships with fins” aesthetics, but you’ve got like fifty fins glued on, all pointing in different directions. It’s still recognizable as part of the aesthetic, but it’s a bad example of it.

Would it be annoying if I asked WHY the man on TV and his lamp are thrust to the forefront while your lamp, the object of our discussion, is in the distant background? I can barely make it out. Just sayin … :smiling_imp:

It was meant to provide context, in that it is beside my TV and not just “on an anonymous side table”. I didn’t really think about it that deeply.

Nice! That seems to work perfectly for that little dark corner and provides a nice ambiance. Glad you finally found what you wanted.
