Is that stuff truly forgotten or just shunted off to one of the dusty, cobweb decorated storage boxes in the far recesses of our minds attic? As much as I would love to have the complete knowledge of everything including the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything™, I would much prefer to have complete Total Recall ™ (minus Schwarzennager, of course) at will. I’d love to bale to dig into my deepest memories and revisit loved ones I haven’t seen in years. Or how about not only being able to remember the event but feel all of the sensations of that moment. You could actually relive your wedding day and see your bride, smell the flowers, taste the champagne, hear the band and feel…well, you know.
You would be able to remember every word from every book you ever glanced at, recall verbatim conversations, be the ultimate eyewitness.
Also, think of the killing you could make on Jeopardy!
Yeah, maybe it’s not actually forgotten but it’s so buried in the deep dark corners of my brain that it might as well be. Your post reminds me (there I go again!) that I used to wish I could summon up a mental video of certain portions of my life for the very reasons you mention- instead of remembering snippets of my wedding day, I could run through it moment by moment, or when I’m sure I told my boss about some issue at work and he insists I didn’t, I could recite the entire conversation verbatim to jog his memory. Man, that would be great.

But what’s the question? I think it involves frogs.
Turns out the butler did it.
