MCU movies, for the most part, seem to be all about punching cgi hordes. I’d love to see someone use their brains for practical solutions. How about some solution that is more chess-like, maneuvering the villain into a position that he is trapped. True, Stark did that in the first Iron Man, but when it comes to the big climactic battle of the premier movies, it’s all about punching innumerable interchangeable troops.
And DC isn’t any better. Superman is supposed to be a 12th level thinker, and Batman is the world’s greatest detective, but do either of them show any of that in the recent films? Heck, Adam West Batman at least used his lab to solve crimes.
Iron Man
The Avengers
Avengers Age of Ultron
Captain America Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers Infinity War
Avengers Endgame
You will get most of the overall story from that. Personally I don’t care about the plot that much. I vaguely remember “tesseracts” and “stones” in some of the movies but had no idea it was an overall theme/arc. I’m really in it for the banter and the flashy battle scenes.
Iron Man, as you mentioned. Doctor Strange is the alpha example, as he beats his big bad by letting himself get killed hundreds over and over and over, until the bad guy gives up. The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie is won through the main cast standing around holding hands. The climax of Winter Soldier involves a lot of punching between Cap and Bucky, but ultimately Cap wins by convincing Bucky to fight his brainwashing. And there’s no big punch-'em-up with Robert Redford’s character. Ragnarok ends with a big fight, but the maneuver that gets them the win is blowing up Asgard so the villain can’t use its power anymore, which is at least interesting tactics. Civil War climaxes in a fist fight between Captain America and Iron Man, but it explicitly doesn’t solve anything, and is meant to be seen as a failure of the Avengers as a team that it got to that point. Meanwhile, Black Panther just talks to Zemo until the cops show up to arrest him, expressly making the point that nothing would be served by another fight.
Star Lord is a notorious hornddog who can’t even remember the names of the women he slept with. He only starts to settle down after he falls in love with Gamora.
In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 the Ravagers visit a brothel with cyborg prostitutes.
