I want to learn the names of all the colors

Not to go too far afield here, but isn’t the thing that would make a pigment truly black is that it doesn’t reflect any light?

We’re saying the same thing in two different ways. And, to be honest, mine is true only in an idealized world, because, as cmyk noted upthread, cyan, magenta and yellow combine into a kind of muddy brownish rather than a nice, all-absorbing black.

My disappointment was great when I discovered that all of my elementary-school knowledge of colors was wrong, or at least not practically accurate…

Many of those names, in the house paint display, are really branded product names.
