Don’t feel bad. When I was 47, a clerk in a store cheerfully told me that on Wednesdays they gave a 20% discount! Moments later, I noticed a sign in the store advertising the 20% discount for shoppers 55 and OVER. ---

How old was the person who asked? Everybody over 35 looks like a senior citizen to a 20 year old… ---

when I was 35 (sigh…) I was at a fast food pizza restaurant waiting on my to-go order. Some kid comes from the kitchen to the front register and asks the person: " what’s old dude waiting on". I was ten feet away. Like duude… you may be deaf from listening to your 5,000 watt car stereo but I’m not.:mad::mad::mad: ---

Not only do I now get regular requests to join AARP I got a mailer for one of those"I’ve fallen and I can’t get up" devices. ---

Hey, when I’m asked if I’m old enough for the senior citizen’s discount I say sure. I figure if I look old enough for somebody to ask me, why not. ---

I’ve regularly been getting “old person” mail for years, and I’m only 25! AARP, motorized chairs, invites to dinners to discuss elderly issues (or something like that), cards trying to sell me funeral services and a few others, all with the implication that I’m elderly and these are things I should be concerned about. I’m not sure where these people got the idea that I’m my grandmother’s age, but it’s odd. ---

A couple of years back I asked for the senior discount at the movie theater. The teenager at the counter gave it to me. I guess they figure no one is lying about that one. (I’m not over 50 even now). ---

An hour ago on the bus, I overheard a snippet of a conversation between two girls. Girl One: …and he’s like, _thirty_. Girl Two: ewwww. Girl One: I know, he’s old, right? Girl Two: And he’s not _married_? I’m 31 and thought about getting offended, but then it just seemed too funny. They looked to be in their early 20s, so it won’t be too long before they’re 30 themselves - and realize that 30 isn’t actually all that old. ---

Sometime in the last year Harris Teeter started giving 5% discounts to shoppers over 60 on Thursdays. Since I’m only 57 I figured I had a few more years before I needed to check into what I had to do to get it. (Kroger’s gives a discount to shoppers over 55 on Tuesdays, and I had to show proof of age at customer service, at which point my preferred shopper account was tagged to automatically give me the discount.) Then I noticed that occasionally (but not always) when I shopped on Thursdays my receipt showed that I was being given the discount. Nobody has ever asked me my age, however. I can only assume that some of the checkers assume from the gray in my beard that I must be an old fart. ---

I’m apparently a senior citizen at the thrift store and at Denney’s, they give me a senior discount automatically. Though I can’t imagine why as I don’t look a day over 39! Other places I’m too young to be a senior citizen, I’ll just have to wait until I age to get a discount. So I’m sort of in a no-man’s land. ---
