I’ve never been asked that before. I turned 50 this year. What else am I going to get asked as I continue into fogydom? Incidentally, I guess she was right. Some of my rogue eyebrow hairs were channeling Andy Rooney. ---

When my son was 4 or 5, he began to chafe at being told he’d have to wait until he was older. One day, he pointed out to me that he was older, because, see? Arm hair! Me: “That’s nice; get back to me when it starts growing out of your ears and nose.” And showed him. Him: :eek: He decided after that that it would just be simpler if he WAS older, so for his next birthday, he wanted to be 100. So, we threw a 100th birthday party for him. He still didn’t get to drive the car, though. ---

I’m 39. I’ve been getting the eyebrows trimmed about every third haircut for several years now. Long eyebrows are unsightly and uncomfortable, and getting them trimmed has never bothered me. Lately, though, the barber has been asking me if I want my ears trimmed, which is a little unsettling to me. Sometimes, the barber doesn’t even ask. I just suddenly feel the trimmer on my ear. I always turn down the offer to have my nose hairs trimmed, but I do it myself as soon as I get home. Having another man trim my nose hairs is just too weird for me. Oh, and I have learned in the past few months that chest hairs go gray, too. I guess I knew that in the abstract. But seeing them on my own chest was a little upsetting, even though my hair and beard are about 25% gray now. Also, my hearing, which has always been pretty sharp, is starting to fade. Damn. ---

My hairdresser didn’t ask, she just stepped back to look at me once about a year ago and grabbed her scissors. I have to say, as a female, I was not expecting that. Kinda bummed me out. ---

AFAIK, you don’t go bald. However, I have experienced a lot of pubic hair loss as I’ve gotten older, and so have my female friends. I haven’t talked about this issue with my male friends, and my husband doesn’t seem to be going bald down below, only on top. Generally speaking, as you age, if you’re happy with your hair in a particular location, it will fall out. If you’re happy with being hairless in a particular location, hair will start growing there. If you’re happy with the length and/or texture of hair in a certain location, then it will start growing longer and/or change texture. It’s sort of Murphy’s Law, only applied specifically to hair. ---

Your hair quantity and length does not change through the years. As you get older, it starts growing down through your head (crowding out brain cells and causing senility) and emerging out your ears, nose and back. Welcome to late middle age. It ain’t pretty. ---

My balding co-worker got a convertible rental car when his own was in the shop. He said that as he drove around with the top down, he was delighted to feel hair blowing against his forehead once again, until he realized it was his eyebrows. ---

I hate sitting in barber’s chair – I’m easily bored. Barber’s upped her price to $2. Sometimes I tip $2 on top of that, but when I do, next time she trims my nose hairs, ear hairs, etc., while I sit there bored. I’m faced with a dilemma – do I stop tipping, or just tell her the extra attention is unwanted? ---
