Tell you what - let’s not revive an old, nit picking argument that won’t be resolved? My mind really won’t be changed on the matter, and most likely neither will yours. And more than likely it will be a matter of interpretation were it to come in front of a cop or judge anyway. At the end of the day, no matter which of us is right, that incident is indicative of the way that you talk to people, and the responses that you elicit when it comes to parking - it is part of a pattern that is rather evident that has very much coloured the way that I am interpreting you latest example of “look how inexplicably arseholish this guy was” ---

I’m just speculating here-but perhaps he’d noticed me around the fitness center and just, for whatever reason, grown to dislike me and let that festering dislike affect this encounter here. This man wasn’t a complete stranger to me, I had seen him around the gym for quite a while (never engaging in anything even remotely physical, mind you, but he’d be there). Now I have never talked to him prior to this but I had seen him several times. ---

But the question is, and I want to ask this as politely as possible because I don’t don’t want to leap on even a tiny admission of possible cause - Have you done or said anything, or behaved in a way that may possibly annoy people? Or what would make you think that this is a potential cause of friction? (in other words - is there a bit of smoke you haven’t shared yet?) ---

No, I am merely speculating; looking for a reason that might explain his out-of-proportion reaction to what went on in the parking lot. ---

I can’t remember the details of your previous gym/carpark stories, but do you think he was maybe a friend of one of those guys? So he’d already heard about you, and when you spoke to his wife he thought he’d take the chance to retaliate on their behalf too? Again, not that it justifies anything, but it might explain some of his motivation for the over-reaction! ---

Thank God I’m in a wheelchair.” The drivers love it when I do this. It really makes their day. And the response to my “overheard” comments: 😕 , which is not surprising given the fact that they were clueless to park there in the first place. By the way, there are no parking signs right where they are parked. On one trip, the bus pulled up to drop me off at a grocery store along a strip mall. This guy comes out of the store with a shopping cart and immediately starts in on the driver for blocking the para ramp, complaining that he’s going to have to walk along the sidewalk to the next one. Meanwhile, at the very instance he is saying this, he is dropping the shopping cart down the mountainous THREE INCHES! of the curb, which is what most people do anyway, whether there is a bus there or not. He then said, “I understand you handicapped people…blah, blah, blah” But according to bengangmo, that man’s behaviour had nothing to do with me being disabled. After all, everyone encounters arseholes, right? What did he say again? “You _ **handicapped** _ people…” What was I thinking, being offended by that?:smack: ---

Regarding the OP, not quite just a technicality, but when someone is in their car and it’s idling they aren’t “parked”. At least where I’m from there’s two different signs: no parking and no stopping. So if someone comes up and needs to use the ramp they can just pull a little forward. Unless they are actually getting into/loading the car and then you may be forced to wait an intolerable 30 seconds, I guess. ---

**quietob** , welcome to the SDMB. We are a moderated board, which means that if a moderator issues an instruction, either to an individual or generally, you are expected to follow that instruction. Both **Idle Thoughts** and I, both moderators, told people to stop the hijacks and stay on topic. Your experiences with people at curb cuts are not relevant to this thread, which I have ruled is about the specifics of this particular incident with **Ambivalid**. I am not singling you out as the only person who has ignored our instructions – but as someone new, I thought you might benefit from a heads up about what it means to post on a moderated board. Ignoring moderator instructions, along with breaking any of our other [rules](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=384736), can lead to warnings, which can lead to being banned.
