I was given a telescope - now what?

Thanks, Brynda! I missed this month’s star party, but maybe in November.

You got your telescope just in time you lucky ducky! This Friday (October 9) at approximately 4:30 a.m. PDT, NASA’s Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite mission (LCROSS) will literally “bomb” the moon (they’re looking for water ice) and you may be able to see the plumes with your new toy!

Here’s the “scoop:”

I was able to see stars tonight! Using the lower-powered lenses, I could see lots of stars and fine crackling-looking in the background. But adding the longer lenses to it, I could only see small dots of starts, like the field of vision was cut way back.

Anyway, I think I probably need a compass and my GPS location. I’ve got the info for the location university astronomy star party for next month. This should be interesting.

And if you are telescopically challenged, like we are, you can see it on NASA TV! We’re making a date to see it in the morning. Exciting stuff!
