The Princess Bride is nowhere near a chick flick. The title is a trick. It will however turn you incrementally geekier with each watching.

_raises hand_

The Princess Bride isn’t a chick flick. My sister in law doesn’t like it, and she’s the kind of woman who can’t understand why anybody would call The Notebook a chick flick, for her it’s “what movies should be like”. There were several minutes of silence when she announced that she did not like TPB, while the rest of the family digested it… heck, her _mother_ likes it, she says it’s one of the few films whose name she remembers!

YOu can’t die until you’ve watched SLeepless in Seattle on network tv - then you will die.

I think two exceptions can be made for chick flicks, the Lust Exception and the Funny Exception. If you watch the flick because you lust for one of the main actresses, it’s OK. I’ve watched 27 Dresses or whatever it was called because of Katherine Heigl, who was fun in knocked up. It was not a good film, 27 Dresses, but … Katherine Heigl. I keep hoping she will take her clothes off and prance around naked, but she never does.

If a rom com is actually funny enough to make you LAUGH … not just smile … in places, it gets the Funny Exception, because the Funny rules, period. Can’t think offhand of any that qualify though. I didn’t think Sleepless in Seattle or When Harry Met Sally were all that funny. Ok, the faking orgasm scene in the restaurant was good, but maybe not enough to qualify for the Funny Exception.

But that’s where I went wrong. I was imagining the hot chicks getting into a girl fight and ripping each other’s clothes off. But that wasn’t going to happen. I say not safe unless you have prior confirmation that a hot chick will get naked.

I thng Harry Met Sally is acceptable because the guy perspective is presented, it has some humor, and if I recall correctly, Meg Ryan is only in the movie during the orgasm scene. Or maybe I just don’t remember any other parts of the movie with her in.

That movie was cute, but I don’t get all the hype. It was so corny. It seemed very much like a chick flick to me.

I’m a woman. Funny trumps romantic comedy (Zack and Miri Make a Porno, for example) but generally I really don’t care for the movies labeled ‘‘chick flicks.’’ They bore the piss out of me.

> Hey, yesterday I spent two hours in the Barbie/Disney Princess aisle of Wal-Mart with my three daughters. Ironically, the worst offender of my masculinity was neither Barbie nor the princesses, but “Fashionista Ken,” the various incarnations of which need to be displayed near the Miami Marlins home-run…thing in order to reach their full potential.

Your manhood is fully intact because you were there in the role of “dad” and not in the role of “random man.” If you were in that aisle alone looking for yourself, then there would be a problem.

Your role as a dad should be threatening to, and actually, beating up boys who show up to spend time with your daughter.

I am working on that. Unfortunately, all I get from the test audience so far is high-pitched giggles.

But I still have years ahead of me to get it right.

That’s mostly the point. The dialogue is witty and a terrific find for people who love puns and other groaner jokes.

I understand a chainsaw will help. Also some testicles in a jar of formaldehyde.

It was supposed to be corny.

It had adventure, fights, monsters, and love. You can’t beat that!
