"I went to school in Boston"

So if I tell y’all I have a Masters from Harvard would that make me less of a t***? I am not sure how sharing my opinions on both sides of an issue makes me a t***? I did say that I understand both not sharing and sharing can be perceived…I also wasn’t aware that this type of name calling was permitted outside of the pit, especially when used as attacking the poster not the idea. But at the risk of upsetting the masses and/or getting/threatening to get banned, I will stay shut.

Carry on.

twickster isuing HIMSELF a warning made me ROTFLOL!

The word “Harvard” has a lot of cachet behind it in the US. In the public mind it is the Iviest of the Ivy league schools. Yale is a close second.

But that’s what makes it so divisive in how it’s perceived. For example, Harvard has a damn good med school, but UNC Chapel Hill has an arguably better one. It just doesn’t have the reputation in the public eye.

People that graduated from UNC don’t have to deal with the “either you are a genius, or you’re a snob” question because they don’t have to deal with the assumptions that people are going to put on them.

And no, I didn’t go to either institution. My two: War Eagle. Go Mariners.

Okay, that was pretty funny.

Not really. Harvard med school is ranked #1 in the country, while UNC doesn’t even have the best one in the state of North Carolina.

With all due respect, it’s hard for me to take the feedback that I have an inferiority complex from someone who types “ROTFLMAO” … that said, I do not have any inferiority complex-- as I said earlier, I never said where I schooled or anything about my degree(s).

Wrong. cite. UNC is 2nd nationally and Harvard 13th.

It does, of course, matter how you measure it. That’s why I said “arguably”.

But by knocking them down a peg, you show how petty and insecure you are. BTW, the reason I wrote what I wrote about **twickster ** is because IT WAS FUNNY!!! (BTW, people agreed with me)

Oh good lord. Really? How old are you–19? 20? Honestly. Your interpretation of human behavior about as grown-up as “he called you stinky pants because he has a crush on you!” Like I said, for all you know, or don’t know as the case may be, I went to the Crimson and sang with the Skull and Bones.

This just in: just because someone agrees with you on the Internet doesn’t mean you’re right.

What if I agree with twickster?

Seriously. You can think whatever you like about Harvard (or any other school) but if you feel the need to denigrate the school to its graduates, then you should examine why you feel that need. The answer is not likely to be “Because I’m 100% confident in my abilities and life choices.”

Depends, do you think he deserves a warning or are you calling me a T***?

This thread is so silly. I’m sailing away on that dirty water. Wicked pissa in the 617–old skool 508. Ask Bernie and Phyl or Bob. I saw it on the Phantom Gourmet. I’m allowed to express opinions. Ergo the forum.

Impressed now?

Nothing I’m calling you has asterisks in it, but while Twickster’s observation may have been out of line, I don’t think she was inaccurate.

And no, I’m not impressed, nor would I be if I cared to believe that you went to Harvard. (Well, mildly impressed). It’s not your education that’s at issue, it’s that massive chip on your shoulder.

As someone who didn’t go to Harvard but has lived in Boston long enough to consider 508 new skool, I’ll add my voice to the chorus of the unimpressed.

Everyone is allowed to express an opinion, and then everyone else is allowed to express their opinion of that opinion, amen, world without end.

I’m assuming you’re replying to me. I am not above talking about any school–even my own. My education doesn’t define me, nor does it prevent me from donating as an alum. I really don’t care what anyone thinks about the schools I attended or didn’t attend. I’m heading to the other thread where people aren’t tiptoeing on eggshells…did any of yall think that the reason people might be timid about saying they went to Harvard is because of these types of brownnosing ideas? It’s a school. It generates successes and failures…just like every other school everywhere.

The only chip on my shoulder better be a Cape Cod salt and pepper.

living_in_hell, you’re hijacking. Stop.

A lot of people who went to Ivy League schools will do that, not just Harvard. It can grind conversation to a halt, and there’s a lot of often incorrect cultural assumptions that are associated with going to an Ivy.

Not trashing a person’s alma mater isn’t brown-nosing, it’s being respectful (of the person you’re talking to, if not the school). I don’t judge people by where they went to school, but I certainly do judge them by their social skills or lack thereof.

[off topic]Twickster is a she[/off topic]

As for the OP: I’ve never heard anyone say that, but then again, I never knew anyone who went to Harvard anyway.
