"I will take what is mine with fire and blood" Threat or fan T-shirt?

Sparing those young women who have not known a man by lying with him, as suitable prospects for concubines?

The funny thing about stories like this is that NO ONE ever seems to be on the pro-zero-tolerance side. I mean, there are plenty of issues where I’m 100% sure that I’m right and then, holy crap, 20% of the population disagrees with me. People will believe and support all sorts of crazy beliefs and positions. But where’s the 20% of the population that agrees that this was a reasonable decision?

They are staying out of this thread so they won’t be spoiled.

In the end, the dwarf rules the world, and the Reverse Cowgirl becomes the official position.

I don’t think we get their kind here.

Shrug. He could have been placed in a position where his choices were to blow off the dean as clueless or support the dean with a really weak support - the only kind of support that was available. Supporting the dean looks a little foolish, but it’s anonymous. Undermining the dean could have been career limiting.

And it could be out of context. There could have been previous questions, in which he did dismiss the danger. If the reporter kept asking how it could possibly be interpreted as dangerous, he might have eventually made an unlikely speculation.

Inquiring minds just don’t know.

Educators & employers unfamiliar with popular TV? What’s new?

Reminds me of an attempted intervention about me when I wore a T-Shirt from the Avenue Q musical which said, “It Sucks To Be Me”. Al of a sudden, that t-shirt classified me as manic depressive and suicidal.

How the “fire” = AK-47s is beyond me in this case.

Well, that’s just common sense.

May I suggest Winnie the Pooh instead? Or Tweety Bird… Maybe the school administrators will be familiar with those characters, you know.

What medication is currently prescribed for Eeyore?

Just wanted to add that "I will take what is mine with fire and blood sounds pretty much like how I’d order steak fajitas.

It could also be a proxy for what should happen to morons. No wonder he found it threatening.

As far as I can tell, the only people who are in favor of zero tolerance policies are school boards and school administrations. Everyone else, liberals and conservatives alike, seem to view them with justified contempt. Why boards and admins are so in love with zero tolerance, I don’t know. Could be a fear of lawsuits, a desire not to have to use judgement, both, or something else. The sad thing is, although they are a tiny minority of people, they have a lot of power in schools and can really mess up people’s lives.

This is like the show community with the inept president and the psycho security guard.

Okay, if Putin wore one of these I might be slightly  and

but WTH, School Administration? Even if you NEVER HEARD of GoT, you need to grab a clue and hang on tight!

:completely disgusted:

It means they don’t have to think or exercise judgement. It means no one ever has to take responsibility for stupid decisions like this. No matter what happens, it’s the policy’s fault, and there’s nothing they can do about it.

The problem in this case (well, the even worse problem) is that whatever this zero tolerance policy was, it was clearly one that had a lot of actual personal interpretation built into it. So you have a zero tolerance policy for threats of violence? Fine. But some person has to be involved in deciding what is and is not a threat of violence. Meaning that there’s a judgment call involved, meaning that calling it a zero tolerance policy in the first place is just kind of silly. (I guess the only benefit is that you can pretend that your hands were tied, when of course in a situation like this, they weren’t.)

You make Baby Dan Harmon cry.

Depends. How long have you had it?

To be fair, when bad shit actually does happen at schools, I’m sure there are a lot of lawsuits and accusations directed at the administrators for lack of preventive measures. So, zero tolerance is probably as much (or more so?) about appearing to be taking action against possible threats as actually preventing trouble.
They’re covering their arses.

Personally, I deplore zero tolerance policies.

Just thought I’d add that, turned on its side, that kinda looks like a vomitting smiley.
So, quite appropriate.
