I wish to live in Alaska- tell me what it is like.

You might be able to find a job in a small town, Cicely. The radio station DJ is quite the hottie.

Mostly because you guys scored the Panhandle. We like to go fishing too - give us Skagway and Haines and I bet the numbers would drop.

Funny, we’d have said Alaskans look just like Canadians, but with way more guns.
And nyaaah nyaaaaah, it isn’t snowing heeeeeeere… :stuck_out_tongue:

Yet.

Ours have been flickering up and down in the house for several hours (midtown). Don’t know WTF that’s all about. Man, I hope it’s not here to stay, but it sure seems to have stalled right on top of us. What’s weird is that it’s 40 degrees outside.

You can have everything south of Juneau, but you have to take the legislature and our idiot governor with it. Oh, and the Lt. Goober, too.

Sorry to the OP, this is still sorta off topic. Chefguy tell your wife she did an awesome job rehabilitating what was a horribly sucky bus system, it is far better than the last time I had to use it, which was around 14 years ago.

Hopefully my car will be fixed in the next week or so, but it’s nice to know that the bus system is at least somewhat useable now. Love the computerized stop announcements and all too, Very “big city” but useful for those who aren’t familiar with Anchorage.

Though the bus drivers need to remember to put the correct route recordings on for their route. I got a chuckle out of the bus I took a stop near Providence the other day, as it approached the UAA engineering building, the recording said “now approaching 6th and C street” or some such.

I’ll pass it on. It was an uphill fight all the way (and still is). George Wuerch (former mayor) hated public transit and actually said to her: “Why do you need bus service on Saturday and Sunday–nobody works on the weekend!” Arrogant jerk.

The Chamber of Commerce is also very resistant to expanded public transit. I think the pressure she was able to bring about by getting FedEx, 5th Ave. Mall and others to fall into the parade helped a lot. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the Assemby members at the first meeting where she had about 50 bus riders of all economic and ethic stripe voicing their needs. It was like: “Uh-oh; pissed-off voters.”
