I won a trip to Dublin

Okay, I’m having trouble finding a schedule on that site. Nor can I find locations. (Admittedly, I haven’t been looking that long.) Is the Sept. 11 game in or around Dublin? At the very least, we could watch it in a pub.

Go to fixtures on the left hand side. Master fixture list, and check the months you want to visit for a week by week list of matches.

The All-Ireland Final is held in Croke Park in Dublin, as are most of the biggest matches. Even if you can’t get tickets you’ll most certainly be able to watch it on TV in a pub!

I’m such a bonehead! I had found those and completely forgotten that I had. Duh. I couldn’t figure out the locations, though, so I’m glad I made the mistake!

Well, they don’t sell tickets to the All-Ireland Final, sponsored by Guinness. They give them to the clubs & counties or something like that. Regardless, we’ve decided that we’d like to watch the game in a pub if need by, so that’s when we’ll be there. I’m gonna ask if the firm handling the sweepstakes can arrange for us to pick up a pair from Guinness—surely they’d have some if they’re sponsoring the thing. Otherwise, we’ll have to find a fine establishment showing the contest for its customers.

Congrats. Hope you have yourself a fine time.

Just remember that getting a ticket to the All Ireland Final isn’t easy. It’s the Irish equivalent of the Superbowl. EVERYONE wants a ticket.

There’s plenty of lesser games that you would get a ticket for. When you firm up the dates etc. let me know exactly when you’re over and I’ll ask around a few of the people I know who are into Hurling to see if they can sort you out with a few tickets to a match during that period.

For the Final the pub would be grand anyway. Lots of atmosphere.

Yep, that’s what we’ve got in mind. We’re pretty much set on being there for the Sept. 11 game, and planning on watching it in a pub—so you had damn well better be there. :-p

I think we are expecting to have no luck w/ getting tickets through the sweepstakes folk. We know that’s a low-probability event; however, watching it in a pub—especially w/ a few of the Dublin Dopers—will be fantastic. (Especially because, and unlike the Superbowl, we won’t be watching a football game!)
BTW—it’s really weird writing Sept. 11 and having it not have anything to do with 9-11.

Cool. That’s a plan then.

I’ll have a ask around to see if there’s anything happening around then anyway.

As predicted, or as expected, the sweepstakes folk haven’t had luck getting tickets to the hurling game on Sept. 11. No surprises there. So that means enjoying it in a pub, which actually sounds like it’ll probably be more fun anyway, when you get right down to it.

We haven’t set dates for sure yet, but the sweepstakes folk are looking into accomodations at that time.

Have fun! I loved Ireland when I visited. The first time I visited I was actually popping over for a couple of days off my trip to London. So one of the main points was to visit the Guinness Brewery. So I get to Dublin and I walk up to the gate and ask where to go for the tour. The gentlean kindly tells me that they have closed the tours for remodeling starting that day. Argggh!! I ended up doing the Jameson tour which was very good, and I did eventually get to tour Guinness a couple of years later. Funny thing about that is the tour ends at the Gravity Bar where you get to enjoy a pint and while I am there there is a couple of dozen schoolkids apparently there on a field trip. Naturally they weren’t drinking any beer, but I couldn’t get over the idea that in the states you would never in a million years get approval for a field trip for 12 year-olds to a brewery.

This is the latest update:

Arrive in Dublin, Ireland on September 9th, at 8:40 am. We’re supposed to be staying at the Camden Court hotel. Then we’re scheduled to fly out on September 17th, around noon.

So get ready for the All-Ireland Championship Hurling Match on September 11th.

And any other days or nights we’re there, as well. Fun, fun, fun!

You have lots of fun!
I’d have loved to have met you, but I’ll be up in the North, getting ready for the wedding (September 16th).

Man, that is friggin’ awesome!

Excuses!

So, what’s up? We’re going to be really dissapointed if we can’t meet up w/ you guys!

We’re going to be in the Mespil hotel, BTW.

We’re thinking of taking the Ghost Bus Tour. Sounds cheesey, but cheesey enough to be way fun.

You lucky bastard!

Pics! We want pics! Take lots of pics! Get other people to take lots of pics! Take pics of people taking pics!

Oh, and photographs too, if you have time.

Hey, I live not too far from Dublin. I’m trying to think now what to recommend… Probably Temple Bar, just. Its a little bohemian area, cross the ha’penny bridge and under an arch and you’re there. Street performers (If you’re lucky, David McSavage), open markets, sometimes an open-air cinema at night, lots of pubs and restaurants… Yeah, temple bar rocks. Or you could just spin about on the luas ,the citys relatively new tram system which I still havent ridden on yet.

BTW, anyone I ever talked to about the Ghost Bus says it’s a riot, again I havent tried it yet. Be sure to touch the Spire… It seems thats the thing to do, just walk up, touch it, knock on it to see how solid it is… walk off. I should be in Dublin on monday, call into Bewleys and I’ll buy you a coffee.

Lucky duck…I love Ireland.
