You used the word “apologize.” I do not think it means what you think it means, since this is in no way, shape, or form an apology as the rest of the English-speaking universe recognizes the meaning of the word. ---

I suggest the OP might have considered going with idea that she had made some questionable decisions lately and that she was withdrawing from the board to spend more time with her family. That’s the way this sort of thing is normally done. ---

I think you should print out that OP and take it to a doctor. Or just tell one you think you have an anti-social disorder, disregard the feelings of others, are paranoid, have specific opinions about the Jews, and are fascinated by conspiracy theories. Your OP suggests these struggles are long-term. Even if you are just a “socially incompetent Discordian” and perfectly functional in the real world, people can still help you. If you were a total lost cause, you would have faked an apology, right? Or ignored everything entirely. ---

If the poster were serious about apologizing, he or she would have posted it in the Pit in the first place, not ATMB, IMHO, MPSIMS, or any of the other forums where any honest dialog is forbidden. Because there are a number of comment I’d like to make about the poster’s disgusting comments and about the presumed nature of the poster’s character that cannot be expressed in a forum outside the Pit. A true apology includes the willingness to let people be angry with you and addressing their anger rather than hiding behind mommy (aka The “discuss the post, not the poster” rule) while repeating the original offensive comments thinly couched as a weaselly non-apology. Also–I agree with Bobkitty–I thought she was a he all these years. Huh. ---

OP has addressed his post not to a specific issue, mod, reader, or the SD itself, but to “you lot.” Which is, as the hed says, “the Jewish people.” The 26 posts in reply preceding this one, no matter how well considered, have not indicated, besides mere username, the authority they may have to truly speak for those addressed. \< clears throat, steps forward \> The Jewish People has asked one of its own, **Leo Bloom** , to respond with a message reflecting the corporate consent that is our hallmark in matters great and small… ---

If **foolsguinea** has demonstrated real anti-Semitism, it’s not entirely clear to me. I see several things that get my racism detector on standby, but I see no reason for the usual SDMB reaction of assuming the baddest of bad faith as soon as it’s remotely possible to infer bigotry. I don’t know why so many people here are so quick to accuse a poster of trying to be racist in some sort of code. Why post racist things here at all, if you want to pretend you’re not? It’s clear **foolsguinea** isn’t a raving Nazi. She seems to believe some ethnicities share certain character attributes, which is potentially dangerous ground, but not 100% wrong every time. If you disagree, why not explain your position? Is it preferable to shun potential bigots, rather than educate? Some subjects are tricky and require those taking them on to tread carefully, but the culture here is for the most sensitive topics is to mock those who don’t follow the party line into silence, or provoke them until they get banned. I think it’s a cowardly, lazy approach and the SDMB really can do much better. I certainly don’t see how it lessens bigotry in society. There are some out there who are lost causes and can’t ever be reasoned with, but most people are capable of better; after all, most of us would have been pretty damn racist if born 100 years earlier. ---

My only claim to being Jewish is heredity-based; all my relatives and ancestors were/are Jewish. It’s just my heredity, it’s not ME. And yet, I’m feeling very offended by the OP, and embarrassed to be reading it. In no sense does it come off as an apology. How do you apologize for something that’s in the present, not the past? You may not be responsible for ideas/actions in the past, that were caused by your upbringing. But if you admit that those ideas were wrong – yet still believe them – no apology is possible. ---
