You should use this as a lesson , never hire a total stranger off the street to do any work for you. The guy now know you keep money on hand and he could be a junkie . You were lucky the guy didn’t try to force his way in your house . This kind of stuff is happening more often today.

I once hired a guy to shovel my walk. Later that day I realized, that man was Charles Manson.

Of course he wasn’t the Charles Manson, as he’s in prison. This was Mike and Helene Manson’s son Charles (goes by Chuck). I initially didn’t recognize him in the parka and stocking cap.

But the point is, had the real Charles Manson escaped from prison earlier that day, it very well could have been him I hired to shovel snow. Next thing you know, Squeeky woulda been by wanting to clean out my gutters. Which maybe wouldn’t have been all bad, they really need done.

Seriously, I’m so sorry this happened to your poor tree. Do get an expert out. It’s likely something can be done. Trees are damaged by natural events, too, and they recover. After all, they are living things. Don’t euthanize it.

Yeah but you might notice that the OP didn’t ask the guy to trim the tree. He asked for general clean-up. Not rocket science. Maybe he should have supervised but it wasn’t the guy’s first job for him. Anyhow, maybe we could take a day off from criticizing every single thing everyone else does and just, you know, sympathize?

No kidding. I thought it was me being overly-sensitive, but I guess people really ARE being jerks around here lately.

Panache, we have a Japanese Maple that I love and I’d be devastated if someone butchered it like that. I do hope you take the suggestion of getting an arborist and please keep us updated.
