Let me start you off. Here are two of my posts from that thread that explain my position:

He thinks he’s smart, you think he’s a snob.
But I must say, Citizen Cane could have done with more explosions and gunfire. That may have kept it from being so boring. 😛

I’ve only come across his/her posts in ATMB. S/He seems like a tamer version of BigT, always trying to explain and analyze everyone’s posts…like someone appointed him/her the spokesperson for the thread. Mostly I’m talking about the last few pages of [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=592567&page=2), where it seems to be **notbatman** every other post trying to diffuse the situation.

There’s nothing wrong with appreciating the (so-called) finer things in life. IMHO, it’s when you take that step of judgmentally looking down on and sneering at those who don’t that you turn into a douchebag. And yes, that includes being “irritated” with them. That attitude cannot exist without an implied feeling of “I am better than you because I like better things than you do”.
I thoroughly enjoy Citizen Kane and Shakespeare and other things I can’t be bothered to list right now. I have many friends and relatives that do not. They are still good people - every bit as good as me, if not better. I have learned a lot from them about various aspects of life, and I respect all of them.
If there is a mark of someone who is more “enlightened”, or however you want to phrase it, I suspect it involves a certain level of humility and respect for those around them, regardless of circumstance or other shallow measures.
ETA: This ended up being far more serious than I intended. I also like boobs.
