I’m good. I have early physical therapy on the foot I broke back in May, then errands to run until my evening shift. The poor dogs will be alone for a long stretch today. Mind you this house was our house until I couldn’t stand it any longer, so I am no stranger. And the dogs were our dogs that became her dogs, so we have a good relationship. The only reason I am here is because she was going come hell or high water, so someone had to take care of the critters. Otherwise we’re good. I have enjoyed the validation of my feelings, and it is appreciated. ---

Oh, man! I’m so sorry to hear this! How old was he/she, and was the bird HER personal pet? Question for you: Any old flames in your life you can call? You sound like you have it together emotionally, but sounds to me like you don’t need to be alone and need to get laid like ASAP. Hit a bar (but drink minimally) and see if you can take home a friend for the night? If an old flame isn’t close, hell, call a buddy and y’all go out on the town, or find some guys and play cards. Just don’t be alone right now. Q ---

It was a pair. I went into their room to check on them and they were both laying on the cage floor. It must have been very recent because they were not stiff. They were locked away in another room for their safety while I was gone. I kept them fed & watered but I could not spend any time with them. I have been working every day since the soon to be ex left on Sunday Dec 18th early morning, with only Christmas off. I have been away from the house 11 hour minimum, usually more like 14 hrs each day. I feel bad for the creatures but I really am doing all I can here. As far as companionship / getting laid / etc., I don’t need that really. My coworkers are actually a great bunch of folks and many have kept an interest in my sanity. I also have good friends and my parents in the loop regularly on the phone, so I’m okay there too. I guess mostly I pride myself on doing the best I can for defenseless creatures, and now I’m gonna be second guessing myself about my efforts, and that blows. But then that’s why I’ve returned to the Dope for a little support. And I got it. Thanks! ---

Then you and I have that in common (the defenseless creatures), but please don’t beat yourself up, okay? You _had_ to work and you did all you could. I was right then, wasn’t I? You _do_ have it all together and you have a support group, and that’s great. I’m glad to hear it. I didn’t want to disturb you, but I did want to tell you how nice it is that this thread is here. I’ve had trouble sleeping most of my life, and I remember times I really needed someone to talk to in the middle of the night. It’s almost 3:00AM, I’m too tired to do anything, but not the least bit sleepy. Anyway, I’ll be off soon. I have to try to sleep. Wish me luck. ---

I sometimes do paid e-mails (2 cents each) or surveys (.50 to 5.00 if I qualify) at night. When I get up to $30.00 they send a check and I donate the money to my local humane society. This takes me about 4 months, but what the hell? It keeps me busy and out of trouble. 🙂 Quasi ---

This doesn’t sound right. If there was only one bird, maybe, but two birds together? It sounds more likely that there’s a slight carbon monoxide leak somewhere. (My sister’s birds died from a non-stick pan being left on a lit stove burner - the fumes were toxic to the birds.) ---
