They detained a man who was the sole caregiver for his disabled son. His sun required specialized, round-the-clock care, and his father was the only one who could provide it.
They refused to release him to care for his son. They’re now refusing to let him attend his son’s funeral.
The man, Maher Tarabishi, was picked up during a routine immigration check-in.
So, murder. Again.
They aren’t even following their own rules they set for themselves.
ICE detention standards allow for detainees to “maintain ties with their families through emergency staff-escorted trips into the community to visit critically ill members of the immediate family or to attend their funerals,” according to its website.
I don’t even know which thread to put this in. On Sunday, just north of Seattle city limits, ICE arrested a man on his way to drop his 2-year-old son off at daycare before work. The 2-year-old had to sit alone in the car for 40 minutes until a co-worker could come and retrieve him. The father is the lead cook at a Cuban sandwich shop that I go to. It’s now closed. No idea whether he was targeted, or stopped at random.
I’m sorry. That sucks.
Oh yeah, I heard about that on the local news this morning. I was somewhat surprised that ICE even bothered to stick around and wait for someone to pick up the kid, and didn’t just leave the kid abandoned in the car.
I’m certain those agents will receive retraining so that doesn’t happen again. I realize this implies they’ve received any training so could be wrong.

Intensive care nurses immediately doubted the word of federal immigration officers when they arrived at a Minneapolis hospital with a Mexican immigrant who had broken bones in his face and skull.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents initially claimed Alberto Castañeda Mondragón had tried to flee while handcuffed and “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall,” according to court documents filed by a lawyer seeking his release.
But staff members at Hennepin County Medical Center determined that could not possibly account for the fractures and bleeding throughout the 31-year-old’s brain, said three nurses familiar with the case.
According to his lawyers, Alberto Castañeda Mondragón entered the U.S. in 2022 with valid immigration documents. Minnesota incorporation filings show he founded a company called Castañeda Construction the following year with an address listed in St. Paul.
He appears to have no criminal record. His lawyers told a court that Castañeda Mondragón was racially profiled during the crackdown, and that officers determined only after his arrest that he had overstayed his visa.
