From a rough approximation, [whistled here?](http://home.comcast.net/~Ranchoth/MysteryTrailerMusicwhistled.mp3)

The tune just kind of popped into my head this evening, and I know I’ve heard it in movie trailers before, with a lot of brass—but I can’t happen to find any them at the moment.

It feels a lot like something [Erich Korngold](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Wolfgang_Korngold) might have written for an Errol Flynn movie, but none of the samples I’ve heard online (like from _Captain Blood_ or _The Sea Hawk_) seem to match up. It might be a more recent composer like John Williams, or even just be from a stock music library, but I’m at a loss for anything beyond a guess.

Can anyone help?

Sounds a bit like the [theme from _Willow_](http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xj0qv9_willow-theme-james-horner_shortfilms#.UZrgU6Ld6FU) (skip to about 22 seconds in).

The best I’ve come up with is the [Robin Hood Prince of Thieves](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5Edkb2Qo9c) main theme, which has become Disney’s theme for its [opening Sleeping Beauty Castle logo animation](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tMJdtXC-j8).

Heh—would you believe that was my first thought, too?

But, as it happens, I _just_ found a clean-ish sample of the tune! [Here.](http://home.comcast.net/~Ranchoth/mysterytrailer2.mp3)

And it _may_ have come from “[MusicLoops.com](http://MusicLoops.com)” or “Proscores,” but I haven’t had any success in searching either of those. ☹

Holy cow that sounds really familiar. But if it’s a soundloop/royalty-free stock theme, it _would_, because they’re made to sound almost-like stuff.

My first thought was [Galaxy Quest](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4n-CiwIZcY), but nope, that’s not it. Similar but not it.

And BTW I’m very much doubting it’s of the Erich Korngold era. It’s more late '70s - '90s sci-fi / adventure theme, faux John Williams, as you mention.
