I'd Like Your Opinion Regarding If I Should Do This

Good point. He should meet the OP at a pawn shop and make him trade it for another TV.

All taken care of. My daughter and I just hauled it out to the dumpster. Geez, having some work done on the house, and having a construction dumpster sitting outside is handy!
It was going to be too much hassle to mess with, so it’s gone. Easy peasy!

First world solutions!

So, rather than give it to someone who wanted it you opted to throw it away?

I’m not even sure he’s going to call back. If he wants it, he can have it. It’s in the dumpster. :o
We even covered it up with some plastic. It’s on the top of the pile, and it’s not supposed to rain until tomorrow night, so if he calls, and still wants it, it’s all his!

I don’t think a TV is supposed to go into a landfill. If you don’t have this guy come by and get it, it should be responsibly disposed of. There are recycling places that will take it off your hands.

Brilliant!!! You offer it for sale on craigslist. When someone has the gall to want to buy it, you run like a baby and throw it in the dumpster!!??!! But only after you get your daughter to help you? Why did you even list it in the first place?

Yep. Should have just given it to the Craigslist guy and taken a chance with the card instead of taking it to the dump.

Or, you could have called him.

It was an obvious scam, OP didn’t owe him shit.

And who knows, there could be a family of Grouches living in the landfill who’ll make good use of it.

Well, the guy texted me, and said that he wanted it. So, I told him to come get it. He did! He just left with it. So, the non-working tv is his. I did give him the website where he can buy a bulb for it, as well.
I told him that I didn’t want anything for it, because I wanted to free up some space in the basement. Everyone is happy, I guess. He got the tv, and I got rid of the tv! I finally have some extra room, again. Win-win!

Off Topic: can you share the website? I have a TV that I think needs a new bulb (sound but no picture).

Just chiming in, should someone else have a broken TV or other device, that Best Buy takes a lot of them for recycling free of charge (up to a certain size, check their site for details). Better than sitting in a landfill. No purchase is required - I just got rid of an old tube TV this way.

SmellMyWort, the website is www.discounttvlamps.com

Thanks, I’ll check that out!

Was it one of those big DLP sets? I think I got about $30 for a selling a 47" one on Craigslist. It was even a working model with a fairly new bulb (<1 year old). Nobody wants those anymore and I wanted it out of my house ASAP. Thirty bucks was a fair deal to me to dispose of it.

Pulykamell, yes! It was the DLP type. That sucker was HUGE. I’m so very glad to be rid of it. You know, then, how much room there is now, with it out of the way.
