Hmmm…instead of “purists”, maybe I should’ve used the term “hard core Beatle nerds” instead. There’s a thread on the Steve Hoffman boards with over 5000 posts where certain people complain about colorization, overdubbing, fake cigarette smoke, why didn’t they show performance X instead of Y which we’ve already seen, how come they edited out this or that, why bother with this movie when we already have Anthology…you get the idea.
Now, I have to say, the nit-pickers are extremely knowledgeable about the subject, but it seems that all that knowledge sometimes gets in the way of being able to just enjoy the film. To be fair, many of the Hoffmanites did like it. I saw the movie 3 times and loved every minute of it.
