Fiction. Likely publish in the sixties or seventies.

The plot revolves around an Indian (Native American) guy who is a bronco (or maybe bull?) rider in rodeos. He’s ridiculously good, and the book repeatedly emphasizes that he never gets thrown but instead rides the horse until he breaks it - not simply hopping off after eight seconds. It was sort of a YA book before that was a real category.

[When the Legends Die](http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/whenlegends/summary.html), sounds like. I read it in high school.
