# ID this French (?) film

A friend of mine wants to get a film for her husband’s birthday, but she can’t identify it. She said it’s French, from about 1962. She thinks there is ‘Cleo’ in the title. She said a main character goes to a hospital and gives birth on her husband’s birthday (21 June).
Any ideas?

Well, there is the 1962 film [Cleo from 5 to 7](http://www.amazon.com/Cleo-5-7-Criterion-Collection/dp/0780023234) but the synopsis Amazon provides doesn’t fit.Visionary of the French New Wave, Agnès Varda captures the atmosphere of Paris in the '60s with this portrait of a singer searching for answers as she awaits test results from a biopsy. A chronicle of two crucial hours in one woman’s life, Cléo from 5 to 7 is a spirited mix of vivid vérité and melodrama. The film features a score by Michel Legrand (Umbrellas of Cherbourg) and cameos by Legrand, Jean-Luc Godard, and Anna Karina. OK, this is just a result of wild-ass guessing and an IMDB search, but I couldn’t find anything with “Cleo” that matched your criteria other than what **Papermache Prince** posted above.
I _did_ however stumble upon [Jessica](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056117/), which is a French movie that came out in 1962 and involves a wedding (hence a husband) and childbirth. It would be pretty easy to remember, because the title character is played by **Angie Dickinson**.
Note that I haven’t seen the movie. This is just the best possibility according to IMDB and my own questionable search skills. Good luck, and I hope this helps. 🙂

A wonderful movie, by the French New Wave’s only female director, Agnes Varda. Do yourself a huge favor and check out her sublime documentary, [_The Gleaners and I_](http://imdb.com/title/tt0247380/).
