I’ve had several black widows on me, but never been bitten. I had to go under our crawl space recently and a couple crawled onto my arm. Not fun.
My father was bitten on the ankle by a brown recluse. A week later he had a quarter sized divot in his skin, about 1/4” deep.
My dad was bitten by a brown recluse on his outer thigh. He had a wound the same size as your dad’s, and it didn’t heal for at least six months. Left a dime-sized scar.
