I'd want to die praying in church

I want to be watching cops beating up hippies.

It feels wrong to suggest you don’t understand aesthetics, but I don’t think you understand it in the way I do. An object with a moral aesthetic would, to the viewer, appear morally beautiful, without necessarily carrying the actual content of moral beauty. I don’t think there is anything contradictory about a ‘moral aesthetic’, but I bet this difference comes down to opinions and not one of us being a moron.

No, I am saying that it has a moral aesthetic. Death generally has nothing going for it whatsoever. A death with a moral aesthetic at least has some positive value, notwithstanding the catastrophic negative value death always has. I understand many people view religions as ghost stories or fairy tales, but still, being murdered in church seems distinct from being shot in a drug deal or in, say, getting caught trying to set off a suicide bomb. No?

Not closer to God necessarily- the morally aesthetic object does not necessarily contain the content of moral beauty, only the appearance is required. I agree that the manner of death was also profane and immoral. But it doesn’t negate what I am saying at all. There is a strange irony in it, no?

He basically seems to be saying that, if he’s going to die, he’d at least like to look like he was a good person. Being shot in a church while praying will make him look like he must’ve been a good person. Imagine if a character is shot while praying in church in a movie–you know they are trying to tell you that they were a good person.

I don’t know why he wouldn’t rather die actually doing something good, so he has both the genuine morals and the “aesthetic morals,” though. Nor why he’d want to be shot in church instead of dying another way.

Tyrion is a very smart man; I agree, except for the girl and the cock part (because I’m a girl, and I don’t have a cock…).

But I say 90.

I knew someone would bring this up. It would have the same effect. The detail would be added to the beatification of Reagan, “Why, the President was shot in church. What a guy!” Only people who read would know how bad he really was for America.

So then why are you saying it has a moral qualities for the people who were murdered? For all you know, they could be awful people, too. Not saying they are, but if Reagan doesn’t get any points for getting shot in a church, why should anyone else?

I’m not. It just looks that way.

It would have looked better for Reagan to go this way, even though he was a huge villain.

I’d like to go out like Jimmy Cagney in “White Heat”-“I’m on top of the world!”
