Idea for Heinlein Series

I’d like to see an accurate to the book movie of Puppet Masters.

I love the book, one of my all-time favorites, but I don’t know if it would work without the 1950s vibe.

Having watched what Hollywood did with his short story “Jerry was a Man” on Masters of Science Fiction, I’m not sure I’d trust them even with his short stories.

On the other hand, Hollywood took his short story “All you Zombies” and turned out the halfway decent film Predestination based on it, so there may be hope for them yet.

Our earlier thread on Predestination (which I agree was pretty good): Predestination: New Heinlein movie has been made [edited title] - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board

Was Predestination Hollywood? I thought that it was an indie production.

I’m using “Hollywood” as verbal shorthand for “the movie industry”. I don’t think it was any major studio.

And caps. What’s a Cap Trooper without his cap?

I agree. So set it in an alternate universe circa 1955 where things are not… quite the same.

Yes, although distributed by Stage 6 Films, an arm of Sony: Predestination (film) - Wikipedia

A series based on the Future History stories might be good, but done in an alternate 1940s/50s timeline. Kind of radiopunk. You could have episodes for the interesting stories, with Lazarus Long as a connecting character.

That would be so incredibly awesome.

I’m thinking Kevin McKidd would make a great Lazarus Long.

I can see him as LL.

As long as we’re wishing, how about “Double Star”?

I don’t think there is a cable channel or movie studio that is going to want anything to do with the positive portrayal of incest that is part of Lazarus Long’s story.

Hasn’t Double Star been done? I seem to recall that it’s been attempted, anyway.

The version with Ronald Coleman, or the version with Stewart Granger?

but… oh. Positive portrayal.

Never mind.

I’d like to see Citizen of the Galaxy made into a movie. For a TV series, my vote for the pilot would be The Green Hills of Earth.

I know it was panned by a lot of Heinlein fans but I think Friday would make a great Netflix short series. Strong female lead, drones, murder, transplanetary travel, and contractual polygamy.

Puppet Masters (the original version that was serialized) was a very, very scary. I loved that story. It had lots of twists and turns to it. It needs to be done. It’s very topical even today.
