I remember a bit of a comedy act from when I was a kid (ouch my brain). I recently had cause to bring it up in conversation, but for the life of me, I don’t know who it was, nor do I remember it exactly.

It was at the time of Halley’s Comet (1986?), and it went _something like_ this:

“So I just learned that all these years I’ve been pronouncing the comet wrong. I’ve been calling it “Hay-leez”, but it’s supposed to be “Hal-eeez”. What other things have I been pronouncing wrong? When I go to order a pizza, are they laughing and saying, hey it’s the guy who doesn’t know how to order a pooperooni pooza?”

Yes, it’s not funny coming from me, but the original had a bit more comedic flair.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like Seinfeld – maybe Steven Wright, depending on the delivery.

Well, another source came through with the answer.

In case you’re wondering, I’ve been told it was Richard Lewis.
