You horrible racist! Chau was of Asian ethnicity. You should have used scalloped potatoes in your cannibalism joke.
I’ve been involved with a lot of different ‘flavors’ of Christianity (Catholic, Congregational, Orthodox, Zen Lutheran, Mega-Church… and micro-church). Only in the last “church”, a tiny non-denominational “fundamentalist” church* that met in the basement of a dorm, did I find anyone who believed God would cast the unbelievers into a lake of fire.
*Most Evangelical (“fundamentalist”) churches are much more rational. One “fundie” pastor, Tim Bell, even wrote a book called Love Wins. He claims the Bible teaches that God will win in the end, so everyone will end up in heaven.
They don’t give a shit about the natives or their souls (they likey don’t even believe they have them). It’s all about the virtue signalling they get to send back to the suburban megachurch.
John Allen Chau didn’t die many years ago. It seems human memories really are getting shorter.
I don’t see where anyone made that claim. Anyway, it’s not that memories are getting shorter, it’s that the trump years have stretched into eons.
Evangelicals and fundamentalists are not the same thing. Fundamentalists are on offshoot from evangelicals who think that the former are too soft and too willing to change with the times. They are completely against the idea you just stated, and would call it new age heresy (even though the idea is nearly as old as Christianity itself).
That said, most Evangelicals are not Universalists, either. If they were, it kinda cuts down on the need for the whole “evangelical” thing, which is about preaching the Gospel so that people will go to heaven. Why do so if that tribe who never heard of Jesus will eventually go to heaven anyways?
