There are plenty of Christians in India, and there are regions where it’s the main religion, or at least a common one. Was the law against proselytizing passed recently?
Certainly there are people who convert without being heavily preached to. Heck, that happens in this country.

Oh, she may have, but I doubt my grandmother ever got that far in any kind of a discussion…I think the story about the fish wrapped in a Christian newspaper was more than enough to close off further conversation.
I only met that great-grandmother once that I recall. I was about twelve and found her a bit terrifying. We didn’t discuss religion 🙂
The question of what happens with the people who lived before Jesus can be a matter of strong debate among some of the more conservative churches in the US. I don’t recall all the details from when I studied this, but your question is one that some people actually do wrestle with. Bizarre as it sounds.

Sure, I’ll tell you the difference. They kill in self-defense, we kill because gasoline might get too expensive.
You think you’re superior somehow, that your “culture” is proof of that. Take away the stability and plenty, and come tomorrow your neighbors will be raping you for sport and you’ll kill your best friend for his canned beef stew.

I kind of wonder about them quieting down when he spoke Xhosa to them. From what I’ve read, one theory is that their ancestors came from Africa a thousand years ago. So is it possible that their language is somehow related to Xhosa? Did they recognize something of what he said? I suspect we’ll never know.

Dubious. They’ve been on the island for perhaps 55,000 years. Their language is unrelated to those of neighboring islands.

They are considered Andamanese, who in turn are considered to be Negritos. The wiki articles discuss the genetics in more detail.

No it’s not too much to ask I just think it’s a little disingenuous for people to mock his death and especially the laughter at his religion as if this tribe of people are somehow any better and their culture any more sophisticated than the dead man’s religion and culture. For what it’s worth I’m an atheist and I think religion is useless but this self righteous mocking of this man’s death is a little much in my humble internet opinion.
This board can be really nasty and inhumane towards the deaths of those it deems to be beneath contempt because of their beliefs or politics and I’ll admit I’ve done the same occasionally but this ghoulish reveling in his death is a little disgusting I think. Would these same people be laughing if this tribe were exposed to some disease that wiped them out because they were not scientifically advanced enough to have modern medicine and instead prayed to some gods for healing?
Both groups are ignorant or backwards in their own way, I was trying to make a point about how this reveling in the death of someone you don’t like doesn’t make you or anyone else appear any better or enlightened than “the dumb Christian dweeb”, everyone just comes off like a bunch of heartlesss sadists. You’re welcome to your opinions but that’s my take on it anyway.

Hey, the miss-ionary ignored the law, risked the lives of his friends, didn’t take the hint the first time his butt was riddled with arrows, and wanted to take a selfie with an isolated hostile tribe under the guise of being a good Christian. His compounding stupidity did little to earn sympathy. If he had concentrated his efforts on helping victims of crime, disease & poverty instead of glory hounding, he wouldn’t get pitted.
