Idiot missionary gets killed

Did she ever offer an opinion on what happened to all of the people who died before Jesus appeared on Earth? Obviously none of those people had an opportunity to learn about Christianity. Did they all go to Hell?

Saved me some typing! That’s exactly what I was going to mention.

Assuming the Scot was quoted accurately, it seems that Chau was a liar and braggart. I don’t think his buddy Jesus would be a fan of that.

I don’t know about this proselytizing thing. What’s the story again? The all-powerful and all-knowing God set humans up in a pretty garden; when an evil talking snake made his plans go awry, he decided that the only way he could manage to forgive us for being naughty was to sacrifice his son to himself. If I were Yahweh, I’d find the whole business a little embarrassing, the fewer people that hear about it the better.

“almost”?

Shortly before being put down, Chau wrote in his diary : “Lord, is this island Satan’s last stronghold”

Hastur, what a cunt.

And yes, fuck his family for their “forgiveness”, too.

“Christian” organization International Christian Concern, which claims that this is a pattern of Indian discrimination against Christians, wants the Sentinalese tried for murder.

Not a lot of presuming in Unitarianism. Or in Ethical Culture Society doctrine.

As for mainstream Christianity, there are varying levels of knowledge and certainty presumed.

They do presume that other sects are wrong about stuff like Trinitarianism, Original Sin, etc. They’re hardly agnostics. I mean specifically Christian Unitarians, of course, the whole UU thing is a bit more fuzzy.

Well, I didn’t expect that.

I just can’t muster up any real sympathy for this young man. The sheer arrogance of thinking that you’re going to succeed where every single other person before you has failed, not to even dwell on the point already brought up about the serious danger of disease he would have been exposing them to! The only word that comes to mind is ‘dumbass.’

No doubt they want someone to go to North Sentinel island, capture the responsible parties, then bring them back to the mainland for trial. At which point they’ll want access to the prisoners to bring them the word of their god in yet another attempt to proselytize.

Now there’s talk of a big effort to recover his body (which is apparently buried on the beach).

Fuck that shit! Leave it there to rot pour décourager les autres.

I love the family’s statement (in the BBC link) that he went to the island of “his own free will”. I guess that’s more dignified than, “we tried to warn the idiot, but nooooooooo!”

Here’s an absolutely fascinating twitter thread about the North Sentinelese. It features a deeply odd Royal Navy Commander in Victorian times, anthropologists and a shipwreck

He’s still an idiot. I don’t see how successfully recruiting Christians, who then die of disease, is good for his cause. It’s a post-truth world, nobody knows how disease works anymore :frowning:

(By the way, great username.)

And I want ICC charged for aiding and abetting the idiot to break the law and getting himself killed.

Nobody expects parents who withhold medical treatments.

I am not setting aside the possibility that there is a “We Don’t Know What To Do Because We Don’t Know What He Wants” Church out there somewhere.

Has he not heard of Dick Cheney?

Might be OK if they were tried by a jury of their peers, i.e., other Sentinelese.

“Actually, I was hoping you were, JC.”

Do they have a “stand your ground” law?
