Anyone else have trouble getting IE 5.0 to run java applications? My security is set correctly, and I can’t find anything else to change…Very strange! * * * Some mornings it just doesn’t seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps. I got IE 5.0 and Java runs very slowly and takes a long time to load. Zette, try going to Tools, then Internet Options… Then click on the Advanced tab, and under “Java VM”, uncheck all the boxes. Tell me if that works or not. ---

Louie, I don’t even have that listed in my options under the advanced tab…Maybe I have a weird version or something?? ---

When I installed IE 5.0, I had to download seperate parts of the browser (Main browser, virtual machine, Media Player, etc.). I think you installed IE 5.0 without the Virtual Machine (java console). Run the IE5 installer (if you still have it), click on “Minimal or Custom”, then check if you have Virtual Machine installed. If not, download it. Tell me if that works or not, okay? ---

Well, I visited the update site- there was nothing about java at all…I even searched my Compaq CD…IE5.0 isn’t listed on the CD (it’s one of those bootable “rescue” CD’s). Any other ideas? ---

Java belongs to Java corp, not Microsoft. Microsoft has to make their own version. But you can always download the real Java seperately at [www.java.com](http://www.java.com) ? or is it [www.sun.com](http://www.sun.com) & use that I think. When you put it on, it’ll tell you if it works with whatever browser you have, or did for me anyway. As you probably guess, it did not like IE 4. ---

Yes, Java belongs to Sun, I guess. Haven’t checked throughly on that. But then, java belongs to us all.
