The English translation of Bambi was written by Whittaker Chambers, who later became famous as Alger Hiss’ accuser in the “Pumpkin Papers” spy case. ---

Salten also wrote the book **Perri** about a squirrel (Hey! That ends in an “i”, too!). Disney made it into a “Real Life Adventure” movie in the late 1950s. Bambi – I kid you not – makes a cameo appearance. Presumably a real deer. I haven’t seen the movie since I was a kid. I don’t think Disney ever ran it on TV, and it only recently became available, in a very limited way, on home video. Perri is a _girl_ squirrel, by the way. ---

Has anyone actually met a woman named or nicknamed ‘Bambi’? Not a working name for someone in the, ah, entertainment field, but an actual nickname? – If he’d been named Sergei, it would have been a completely different movie. Sergei is badass, unless you anglicize it into ‘Suergey.’ Then you’re a puss. ---

I knew a girl that everyone called Bambi, and she answered to the name. I don’t know if it was her real name. Not the only thing about her we wondered whether real or not. She seriously fit a stereotype, since she was a plasticy babe who acted dumber than a box of empty whiskey bottles. I like the way the line goes up the back of her stockings. I always liked those kind of high heels, too. ---
