I don’t think she’d be particularly divisive, although I’m sure the Republicans would try to make her look that way.
BTW, that’s one thing that speaks well for McCain-- a proven track record of working with the opposition party. But McCain might have some trouble against a Southern Democratic Governor. The curse of the Senate might do him in.
Zero and zero. Cheney isn’t running. I’d give him only a 50% chance of serving out the rest of his VP term. Here’s a man who travels everywhere with a team of doctors and an ambulance. Sure, it comes in handy when you accidentally shoot your buddy in the face, but this is a guy who expects any second to keel over and need emergency medical attention.
And even if he were healthy, Cheney’s ratings are lower than Bush’s.
Hillary On Flag Burning (Washington Post)
She voted for the orginal Patriot Act, then (to her credit or write it off to pandering to her base) she voted against the extension
And I just read something about her supporting a bill that made tapping cell phones easier but I seem to have misplaced the information.
Basically what Lemur866 said…I rate the chances of Chaney running below those of Hillary. He’s unpopular in the extreme, he’s also in ill health…and then, I’m unsure if he even WANTS to be president to be honest. Why would he want to be? I don’t think being president would do anything for him.
As to the odds he’d win the Republican primary if he ran…well, I’m not sure we could calculate such a low order probability. Lets just leave it at ‘vanishingly small’.
Hillary can’t win because with elections so evenly divided of late, things like sexism and racism are greatly increased factors in elections. With the incredilby close margins, it wouldn’t take very many voters at all whose hands would be stayed from the voting punch by the thought of electing a woman, to deliver the election to the opposition.
Well I’ve just demonstrated that HRC significantly strayed from protecting civil liberties, which I thought was a linch-pin of the Democratic Party. Please correct me if I’m wrong. The flag-burning thing alone puts her in a new category compared to just about every other democrat.
She’d get her ass handed to her. It would be a disaster. Hillary could only sway the fence-sitters, who wonder if the far right are correct about her being Mau Clin Ton, by stepping further over the line into hawkishness and relgiosity. She has to complete the process she’s already begun, and transform fully into Pubbie Light. Lefties will squeal, and righties will cream themselves. Yet another pandering, flip-flopping, dishonest Democrat who you can’t trust. Slick Hilley. Billary’s other head speaking the usual litany of lefty lies. The problem is, they’ll be demonstrably right. She simply lacks her husband’s charisma and finesse. When she panders and prevaricates, she tends to looks about as fake as she is. Any smooth-talking tough-guy type will mop the floor with her. Righties will eat it up, and lefties will feel betrayed. Real issues will not matter a wit. Image will eat the campaign, and hers will be in tatters. Any reasonably believable Christian man will do. Just put them head to head, and watch her self-destruct without her or her supporters even recognizing it until it’s too late.
You’re wrong. Civil liberties is not the linchpin of the Dem Party and never has been. They have a better record on it than the Pubs have, but it’s not their most important issue.
umm not quite. I was trying to sum it up in just a few words but I guess I failed. My interpretation of individual economic freedom under the dems means limitations on businesses to guarantee individual consumer freedom and promoting things such as education and election reform to ensure liberty to the little guy. Let me know if I’m off base or just plain on crack and not explaining things clearly, or if I’m just entirely misunderstanding the party so that I can adjust my support accordingly
She would get my vote, if not for anything but the sure joy of having first lady Bill Clinton causing havoc among the young interns, and giving us all a well deserved distraction from insane gas prices
Until Democrats stop voting in primaries for someone they would like to see as President and start voting for someone who can be elected they deserve to lose.
Prediction. Hillary Clinton will never be President of the United States.
Her “history” as an imperious and arrogant “advisor” who was basically crafting policy as an unelected shadow President. Her history as a person who would forgive her philandering husband anything, so long as it did not disturb her access to power.
Hillary Clinton’s main agenda is power and she will go to remarkable lengths, and suffer almost any humiliation to obtain it and hand onto it. She has done this throughout her domestic and political career. While I can admire her fierce determination in this respect, it (to me) bespeaks an unquenchable lust for power I would find worrisome in any man or woman, much less the potential POTUS.
I can’t stand shrill. I can’t stand to listen to her when she’s behind a podium trying to make a rah-rah speech. Her voice peels paint. She has a banshee’s wail. Listening to her bray is physically painful.
If she does run, she’d better take some voice lessons or else her message will be lost in the screeching.
