I am so sorry about your friend!! I don’t know about the rest of you all…but, yesterday I think I was in shock. I didn’t cry. But, the tears are falling freely today. My heart hurts for those families who have lost loved ones, whether they were in the building, on the street, in the plane, or whether they went in to rescue. ---

I was unable to respond earlier because I’ve just been getting more and more bad news from friends and I had to stop going online. I hope, truly hope, that none of you have lost someone dear to you. **Spider Woman** , thank you for the thought. Unfortunately, she was working on the 97th (or 98th) floor of the first tower hit. There is little doubt that she has died. To all those who have lost someone: Please accept my most humble respects and sympathy. I hope that you have someone close to you right now; that you are comforted and loved. I’m sorry if I seem stilted and formal. I am worn out from weeping. ---

I had hoped it would turn out differently. My daughter, **Angie Gailbird** , who lived in NYC until June, had not heard from one of her former roommates, Linnea, and feared the worst. Linnea works in the financial district for Merrill Lynch. My daughter found out that Linnea was in Connecticut (and probably still is) at the time of the disaster. Another of her friends e-mailed to say that his shift was changed, or he would have been in the building but was at home sleeping when the first plane hit. I had hoped that your story, too, would have a different ending. If Mary died, I hope that it was quick. I’m so sorry. ---

Thank you all, again, for your kindness and consideration. Brief Update: I, along with Mary’s other friends, received an e-mail from her husband, who is not doing well. He has moved back in with his parents (I think he just abandoned the apartment and everything in it but that wasn’t clear) and describes his days as “putting one foot in front of the other.” ☹ He liked the memorial page that someone else set-up but started getting upset again at all the nice things people had to say. Anyway… Thanks. ---

Y’know, I think that this thread is in the wrong forum. I say that because it is without a doubt one of the most **non-mundane** , and **non-pointless** posts I have ever seen. In a lot of ways it’s one of those reminders of how quickly we can lose someone or something we care for. And it’s also a reminder for how we have to go on. **xcheopis** , when I die I hope people have such fond remembrances of me that you have of your friend. If there’s a heaven I’m sure she’s smiling at you from it. Good luck to you and your departed friend’s family. ---

_sigh_ I had thought I was done with sniffling but I’ve been kind of upset since getting the e-mail. goodness, her husband has taken quite a blow. all anyone can do is just keep in touch. he no doubt wants to hide in a hole and close in tight. keep knocking at the door. thoughts and prayers heading your way and toward mary’s family.
