Best advice in this thread so far. When I was running my plumbing business, all I carried in my truck was the good braided hoses. It is well worth the expense. A washing machine hose, running for 8 hours while you’re out at work, can cause tens of thousands of dollars of damage. I always advised people to check them often and replace them with good hoses. The worst leak damage I saw was from a blown washing machine hose. It was in the upstairs unit in an apartment building, and it flooded out all 4 downstairs units, dropped the ceiling in one of them, totally ruined furniture, 2 computers, carpet, and a whole lot of sheetrock. > [@billfish678](#): > > In theory its okay to leave it on. The size of leak required to have your water heater running dry would be SUCH a huge leak that it would outweigh any minor electrical issue. If you run an electric water heater with no water in the tank, the element will blow fairly quickly. That will limit the amount of heat you’re going to have. The power will still be on to the heater, but no current will be flowing. The flood of water from that water heater will be your major issue. IF you’re lucky, the heater is in a pan, the pan drain line is clear, and the water will just run outside. That’s a big IF though. Oh…and Murphy is an asshole!! ---
