> Where did I say WWII? What is the deal with pro-zionists using “I know more than you” as their first line of defense? Yeah, I know zionism started before that but the riots you talk about all started after WWI and the Balfour Declaration, didn’t they.

So what’s your point? Major violence started in the teens and twenties…but antisemitism had always been there. I’m sure immigration made it worse. The Syrians were not known for diplomacy.

> You have a cite for the notion that the anti-semitism was a result of Jewish improvements to land? I know land purchases after the balfour declaration had something to do with it but the notion that it was the result of arabs getting mad that jews cultivated land and increased their value is news to me. Please cite. I would like to be enlightened by someone as knowledgable as yourself.

Would probably have something to do with the Jews buying land, building infrastructure, employing non-Jewish Palestinians as well as themselves and having support for a country. They were becoming more viable.

They also did buy the best land. Later, as non-arable land became suburbs and tourists spots, I’m sure it contributed to Palestinian anger. (What was Eliat before it was there?)

Not all Muslims or all Arabs are antisemitic nor were then. But as far as key players go, the Jewish State was something they were always opposed to. Even in the 1800s there was anti-Jewish sentiment.

And one per cent did Arabs have land deeds to?

Cite, please.

> I’m not sure what you mean by Jewish quarter but I recognize that the arab states stole land from teh jews and they should probably chip in to the restitution that the Palestinians eventually get.

It’s in East Jerusalem. Was there well before 1948.

> So you think Israel is faultless. Gotcha. And therein lies the problem. No balance in your perspective.

No. I said I wouldn’t blame Israel for the terrorist attacks.

> I thought we were talking about the 1967 borders and as a result we were talking about who started the 1967 war (because some people were portraying this as Israel taking land after getting invaded rather than Israel taking land as a result of a war that they started).

We are talking about the 67 borders, but Israel did not start a war with Jordan (who controlled the WB at the time.)

Of course. The idea of Jews having their own state is just tolerable. Right?

No one was there. They had permission first by the Ottoman Empire and then the British.

> BTW, what benefit do WE get for aid to Israel?

I should’ve been clearer.

We do give Egypt aid, and it’s really pretty pithy. The average Egyptian doesn’t see any. Mubarak saw benefit, however.

As far as what we get from Israel: Oh, I donno, how about intelligence, technology, anti ballistic missile system…? The technology we get thanks to Israel’s military (medical & tactical) is amazing. You can thank Israel for things like ICQ, more energy efficient cars, ag technology, developments in science & medicine…but seriously, in a world without Israel as our ally, we are a disadvantage from a foreign policy standpoint. Finally, Israel really is our ally.

The U.S. does nothing for fun or just to be nice. Let’s get real here.

Concerning land: Not every square inch of land was “owned” by someone. If early Zionists “stole” anything, it was the rights of the Bedouin in the Negev. There’s a British/Indian comparison if you like.

But there’s a difference between “privately owned” land v. JNF land and “unclaimed land”. So when I say _available_ I really do mean, _available_. There was nothing built.

Jews did buy from absentee landlords and local Arabs. I don’t know how that qualifies as stealing. If they stole it from anyone, they stole it from Great Britian…except…nope…they pulled out.

So I’m asking you, how much _privately owned land_ was in the hands of Arabs pre-48 and they had the deeds to show for it?

Also, if there is any strip of land in the WB not ‘owned’ by someone privately, does this mean it’s anyone’s claim?
