Any democrat other than Joe Lieberman will be seen as the spawn of satan by today’s GOP.
Huntsman is very right-wing economically. He’s actually terribly conservative. He’s just more sane on things like climate issues, or willing to pretend to be.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the Democratic and Republican candidate sin '16 will not be someone who has run previously.
Yeah, it’ll be interesting who runs in '16. There won’t be another election for a Wisconsin senate seat until '16, so Paul Ryan can’t run for that in order to elevate his own profile.
I suspect it will be a mix of same old faces and new ones.
I predict that Sarah Palin will play the same old “put my name out there to make more money” play she did this time and in no way will make any serious stab at it.
Of the people you named, Bachmann, Santorum and possibly Cain are the only ones dumb enough to be true believers.
Perry, I think, is more politically savvy than a lot of people give him credit for. He was, after all a Democrat back in the '80s and switched party affiliation when he saw the political winds changing. He’s also at least made an effort to court Hispanic voters in Texas and generally takes a softer line on immigration than the rest of the GOP. The problem is his schtick doesn’t really play well outside the Lone Star state.
I also highly doubt Palin is a true believer. She’s dumb, sure, but I think she’s more concerned about cashing in on the latest faux-outrage drummed up by the right wing noise machine than anything else.
Perry couldn’t even remember, on more than one occasion, which Federal agencies he would shut down. Sorry, he goes on the dummy list.
I give Cain more credit. I think this was all for fun and selling more books for Herman. Mission accomplished!

Brings to mind my all time favorite dumb luck sporting victory. “Aussie” (formerly British, previously Hungarian) Joe Bugner won the WBF Heavyweight title from James “Bonecrusher” Smith by first round TKO.
