Well, what if we could strengthen our immune systems by a judicious admixture of vulture DNA?
And, as far as that goes, why shouldn’t I be able to replace my damnably inefficient feet with a nice pair of hooves? What if it were cheaper than, say, hip replacement surgery? We already have put baboon and pig heart valves into humans: what’s wrong with that?
As for bigotry…who knows? Further diversity might actually help us with toleration. After dealing with guys with multiple eyes and legs and things, my Korean neighbor is going to seem a lot more like me than different from me!
“We are what we are?” Does that mean I have to give up my eyeglasses? If you’re okay with eyeglasses, and if you’re okay with corneal surgery, then what’s the beef with cloning a pair of Hawk’s eyes and transplanting them to me? I not only get perfect eyesight, I get 200-20 vision!
I agree this is a kind of argument from the acceptable to the unacceptable. (The reverse of the slippery slope argument.) But, seriously, where along that spectrum, from eyeglasses to Hawks’ eyes, do you dig in your heels and demand we stop?
