Are people supposed to shrug their shoulders when he blatantly accuses a former president of committing an illegal act – done ostensibly to divert attention from the fact that his business dealings and campaign connections compromise his ability to deal with foreign adversaries and national security threats? I won’t even touch the now-obvious attempted meddling in a criminal probe. I don’t think that’s hyperventilating; I think it’s expressing measured alarm. I would agree that Democrats and Trump’s critics will utterly fail if they do nothing more than react to Trump’s tweets and fail to develop alternative policies and a message to that effect. But expressing alarm is not unreasonable – it’s quite reasonable and necessary. ---

Somebody the other day had a good piece on anti-anti-Trumpers. Basically, conservatives who realize they can’t defend Trump, but in the absence of anything for them to be _for_ anymore, have joined with pro-Trumpers in the conservative safe space of liberal-bashing, because it’s the only thing they’ve got left. No meaningful policy agenda (other than to take health care away from people who need it but can’t afford it), a tantrum-throwing 70 year old child as leader of their party…yep, liberal-bashing is all they’ve got. ---
