Well, “Six Flags Great Adventure” is a much better name than “Six Flags New England”, but I was referring to what I assume to be the “original” Six Flags park, Six Flags Over Texas

You must be older than me, there have been multiple Six Flags parks as far back as I can remember (I’m in my early 40s) so I never really think of one as being the original. It’s always been Six Flags (wherever).

Great Adventure was the first one I was really familiar with growing up in the New York area.

Tacoma resident for seven years:
–Look primarily for apartments in Tacoma north of 6th Av, or in the adjoining cities of Puyallup or Federal Way. Avoid Lakewood (SE of the city) and Tacoma’s southern suburbs like Spanaway. Even the area’s worst neighborhoods are way better than New Orleans. Virtually everyone who moves here from the Midwest or NYC comments on how nice people are here.

What’s wrong with Lakewood.

Of course, given that tidbit about the name, you’d almost expect it to be a theme park about the heritage and history of Texas or something, but instead its just your textbook amusement park with rides and music and food and such.

I have never been, but at least there are six state flags that fly over New England, so they have that going for them. The park used to be called Riverside as it is . . . wait for it . . . alongside the Connecticut River. That’s the way to name an amusement park people!

Thinking long term, the Air Force Bases around Washington DC will never be BRAC’ed out of existence.

Nor the ones around San Antonio, in all likelihood (Lackland is the only base that does Basic Military Training, and Randolph is where they do all of their entry level pilot training, IIRC)

I’ve lived in Washington for almost ten years, and I do not love it here. There are things I like (it’s nice and green, easy drive to lots of activities, good wineries), but I despise the climate. It really gets to me. This is really a personal thing – I know many people here who don’t mind it, or actually like it. But I hate that aspect of living here. It isn’t really the rain, or even the grey that annoys me. It’s the lack of warmth. I like hot weather (80 is probably my ideal temperature, and I don’t mind 85). It very rarely gets that warm here. The average high in July and August (the warmest months) is 75.

I hate to zombie a thread this old, but considering that here in western WA we had the temperature top 100 two days in a row this week, I hope that sharding (wherever they are) is satisfied with our climate now. Global warming has been hitting us hard and fast up here.
