An old fashioned hot dog shop. About the fanciest we would get would be kielbasa. But it would be good - homemade chili’s and slaws, aged cheeses, hand cut fries. All fresh and natural ingredients. Eventually move to making the dogs/sausages/buns on site.
The drawback? A restaurant of almost any kind requires way too much of a time commitment.
I allready know I am crazy, but I want to open up a coffee shop/creative arts club and actually run it like a cub. The definition of creative arts would be somewhat expanded to nearly anyone with a hobby but we would recognize the creative aspect to hobbies and try to provide an enviroment conducive to allowing folks to pratice thier hobbies with others of similar mindset. Workbenches, stage for acting and singing. An outdoor area for things to be done outside that shouldn’t be done inside.
I would encourage the forming of clubs and provide meeting space. We would have a bulleting board for those who wanted to form clubs or groups, and possibly have 3 dailey 5 min or less announcements as to what was going on around the club.
Discussion groups or those seeking discussion groups would be given a fair amount of attention in that they could place a sign on the chalkboard as to what table they are sitting at and the things they like to talk about. Cut right to the chase!
I would hope to make some income by selling coffee, renting meeting space based on the size of the meeting more than actual costs associated. Possibly a verty simple limited menu featuring no more than 2 choices per day, but make them very good dishes that could fly for lunch or dinner. Lockers for rent, some tools supplies, vidios, etc but keep that general and based purely on demand.
This is all based on a theory that todays society does not provide enough outlets for that tribal or village mentality that a lot of us have a need for. It would help to provide a source of identity through validation. I also believe that when people become passionate about most anything they function at thier best. All these feeling are somewhat addictive and could lead to a very loyal client base that would not at all be hard to target or develop.
I would love to open a cozy little bookstore. New and used books, had to find volumes. It would have a fireplace and lots of overstuffed chairs. Sadly, I don’t think this area would support it.
There is a place near here called the Dog shack. It’s a tiny place, about 500 sq. ft. It sells dogs with sauce, mustard and onions (their basic combo) for 3 for $1.79. It is always packed and has been in business for over 50 years.
IRL I would expand on my contracting business, maybe to where I just oversee the work.
I always thought I could start a Wi-Fi ISP in the area surrounding my cottage.
There are 30 000 islands and more cottages, cell phone reception is spotty and there are no digital TV signals available. There is a niche there I’m sure.
I’m good at polishing cars to remove swirls and scratches and I’m alright at tinting windows. If I could open a business, it would probably involve those two things, play maybe a few other customization things. I’d like to learn to weld and do metal fabrication too.
